By now everyone in the USA who pays attention to High School Football should be abuzz about Gonzaga Preps do it all star Devin Culp. The 6’5″ – 250 lb man-beast is getting it done in his Senior Year in a way that sets him apart in a rare breed that even my 20 years on the beat has rarely seen.
Having said that he is not as well known as he could or should be- no matter because the UW Huskies have this stud locked up! Still, Culp is being slighted by the “Experts” with a 3.0 Star Rating from Rivals.com who have him as a Wide Receiver.
Scout.com has him at a 4.0 Star. They do a great job in the Pac NW thanks to Brandon Huffman, Chris Fetters, Scott Eklund and others. They have him as a WR too.
Prior to the recent merger with Scout.com, the 247Sports group had Devin as a 3 Star.
Now for me, he is a kid who should be on the verge of a 5th star and I would put him up against any athlete in the Nation. He can play every receiver spot on the field, plays running back, punts, and he can return kicks. He is also a very intriguing defensive recruit as he grows.
Friday he did something that more than anything else sets him apart. Look at the clip below and understand the level of talent you are seeing here.

When was the last time you saw a big man move like that? I can tell you my comparison would be All American Brennan Scarlett who ran the 200 meters at 6’4″-250 lbs and went from Portland’s Central Catholic to Cal, finished at Stanford, and is now with the TEXANS in the NFL. Like Culp, Scarlett can do it all.I am enjoying watching Devin’s highlights from afar. Rest assured Coach Petersen is watching too. Of all of the recruits and athletes I have seen this last two years in the NW, Devin Culp stands out. We are all watching the rise of a star College player and of a kid from the NW who should play on Sundays and change his life and his families lives; God willing.

We think Devin Culp is an All American and is worthy of a coveted 5th Star just to recognize the depth of his talent and all the great things he can do on the football field. He is truly a great kid off by all accounts as well.
