It is always great to have our readers send us the heads up when new talent shows up and shows out. That is what happened tonight when we received a Tweet with a 3 game highlight saying we needed to see young Jaxson Kirkland who is a Junior over at Jesuit in the Metro League in Portland. As we have told all of you we watch 100% of all film submitted- sometimes we react quickly like we did recently with Kaelin Himphill and Keith Moore and sometimes we need to see more. When we did good things happen- lots of film views- offers- phone calls. Not all the time but most of the time the ripple effect of the pebble in the pond is something we can help with.
This young man, Jaxson Kirkland, is 6’7″ and 305 lbs. He moves like a cat out there for a big man and we guessed he 1) plays basketball and 2) comes from a football family.
Via Twitter he confirmed that 1) Yes he plays basketball and 2) Yes he comes from a Football family. His Father is Dean Kirkland of the Washington Huskies (a Columbia River HS Graduate) and he went on to play 4 years in the NFL. Read about Dean here.
Jaxon is advanced for a Junior. He is form Camas, Washington and would have been a Papermaker if he had not enrolled at Jesuit which is widely known for its academics and sports dominance. He is the right kid at the right time as Jason Talley, a 6’3″- 215 lb monster back, is using Jaxon and others to tear up the field this year. Kirkland is laying out pancakes like they are going out of style. Block after block in this initial 3 game film has him finishing opposing defenders with a vengeance. This is what is needed to go big- great film and proof that you can finish. At the highest levels it takes a mean and nasty streak to survive and this Crusader is showing he can do that and then some.

“Being at Jesuit the brotherhood on the football team is something you can’t experience at any other school. And this season I love how every player is stepping up. Our running game this year, it’s like no defense can stop it,” said Jaxson.
His dream schools include USC, Oregon, Texas A&M, and the University of Washington. Big time programs who this youngster should be able to attract some solid interest from the next coupld of seasons.
