Air One Football Academy Break Down: Part One

Air One Football Academy Break Down: Part One

We have talked quite a lot about the need for quality coaching and camps in the off season here in the Pacific Northwest.  One Coach who really has it cranked up and is doing it right is First Team All American QB Coach John Charles.  He is slowly but surely building one of the premier football training acadamies on the West Coast.

Based out of Vancouver, Washington Charles is catering right now to All skill positions with his incredible staff of former Division 1 Coaches and former NFL players.  Himself an All American John set records at PSU and at Foothill JC before moving on to the Falcons in the NFL for s short stint that was ended by injury.

Between 40 and 60 kids come out to a Sunday work out and get after it for two hours.  A camp that beings with excellent SAQ work, Positional Coaching in several stations that teach technique, and then some heated reps where QB's throw to Wide receivers, Backs, and Tight Ends.  That really has allowed the kids coming to improve and some of them are bringing their QB's and Receivers to get work in for preparation towards next season.

"It is going great.  The kids are enthusiastic and give it their all every session," said Charles who is a fantastic technician on top of being a Humble guy.  "We coach with our hearts.  All my staff are that way.  We expect hard work but are going to give them as much or more of ourselves then anyone else.  We care about them and their success as a student athlete."

John has individual skill sessions during the week and works with kids in all sports and ages who are trying to improve their speed and agility and overall fitness.

The camp has been going 4 weeks and in the times our staff has visited we have seen real progress and some of the best positional athletes out there.  We take a look here in part one of out series on the Air One Football Camp at some of the talent that has risen at the Camp so far:

Deven Jackson; Jefferson HS (Portland) QB:

6'2", 190 Pounds 2013

Jackson has looked better and better each week. Deven has always worked hard but has been just one game away from breaking out as a star player.  If he keeps throwing the ball the way he is his success is going to come.  One of the fastest most athletic QB's in the Region.  He has great size and over all athleticism and is a threat to run anytime the play breaks down.  He has above average strength and his overall Football IQ is much improved.  He should be among the best QB's in Oregon this season and he has looked crisp and sharp out at Air One Camp.

Nick Cropley, Union HS (WA) QB: 6'3" 185 '13

Nick has been a real surprise.  He is big and athletic and his arm and skill sent since week one has changed dramatically.  It is clear his confidence has risen a few notches and he appears to be in a greta position to ear the starting job at Union.  A host of Union WR's have been at Air One and Cropley is hititng all of these guys on a regular basis.  He is 6'3", and 185 pounds and throws a great tight spiral.  He is working through his progressions and his drops and is proving he can be a QB that can succeed in High School and beyond.  It has been great seing his metamorphisis.

Catch all of his information and film at http://westcoastpreps.com/profile/nickcropley  and if your an athlete or parent join there and get yoru own web page for free; something we have worked out with Air One and any hard working kid.  Great job so far for Cropley.

Maurice McSwain, Aloha High (2014) and Austin Johnson, Kalama HS (20130

This is an interesting pair.  Both showed up at recent camps and really just tore it up!

McSwain is a Sophomore at Aloha HS and showed that he is ready for the big show!  He has great size, long arms, and very quick feet.  He made several catches most guys would miss on and had great control of his body keeping his feet in bounds with almost no margin of error.  He looks to be a young man that will be able to run, catch, and play defense for the Warriors who I think are going to have a tremendous season again.  Watch out for this guy.

Now in Orange in this picture is Austin Johnson of the small town of Kalama.  Johnson is not small town talent however,  He is pushing 190 pounds, has 4.6 legit speed, and as you can see is in superior condition.  He was a two way star last season and had right at 1000 yards as a running back.  His average carry was close to 10 yards.  His defensive stats were even better.  Austin is powerful, explosive and his ability to stop and go in a different direction set him apart.

He is moving up the list of RB's on our watch list and is only going to get better.  We hope he continues to make the camp as his story is an emerging one we plan to follow!

Forrest Russell, Skyview High School (Wa), All State and All Region WR:

There is no need to beat this one into the ground… Forrest is a stud!  No one works harder or more focused then he does.  He does not have proto-typical size for a WR at the highest levels but his history shows that he will overcome what he lacks in stature with a huge showing on the field.  He led the Storm to the State 4A Finals last year agaist Skyline and was brilliant in his efforts.

His speed is where it needs to be.  His ability to get open and run routes is uncanny. He has a blazing 3.98 pro agility shuttle and a 39.5" vertical.  Wow!

If the ball ends up anywhere near this talented kid he will bring it in and go to work.  A great poseesion receiver who will get open and get the chains moved.  He is already near the top of most people's lists for 2012 and at the Air One Football Camps is proving that fact is true!

Bryce Evans, Union High School, WR; 6'4", 210 Pounds

Here is a young man on the rise.  He was behind some talented kids at Union HS but just like his future QB Cropley Evans is going to be ready.  He is tall at 6'4" and has that lean muscular frame you want in a wide out!  A real talented kid with great hands and a nice burst of speed.  This could be an All League and All Region Wide receiver right here.

If the Titans decide to open it up and this guy get out in space he will be hard to defend.  He does a great job in the drills out at Air One where he is catching what comes his way and breaking off big runs when to finish.  There is no reason he can not go on to have a great Senior year and play collegiate football as well.  He has been getting better and better at Air One Camp.

The Only reason this guy is not at the top of all the recruiting sheets is that he had to play behind Kieran McDonagh last season who went on the PSU. Berni is a talented young QB people are anxious to see this fall.

Jordan Berni, Skyview HS, QB, 2013

So the story goes that Jordan could have started last year.  He battled all season for the #2 team in the Evergreen State and he got some quality time too.  But he was stuck behind an equally talented Senior in Kieran McDonagh who is moving on to Portland State.  Berni has quickness, accuracy and a touch of nastiness too which makes a guy you want in when the chips are down!

He has been training with Coach John Charles for a few years and is back this Winter / Spring for more.

"Coach is terrific.  I can not say enough about all he has taught me," said Berni who showed us last week once we got outdoors at McKenzie Stadium why he can be so special completing pass after pass and hooking up with some long passes for TD's too!

Watch a couple minutes of this and see one of the smartest and maybe most under-rated QB's in the Region.  Jordan can take this talented team at Skyview back to the Dome this year!
