Austin Urlacher Racks Up 363 Yards As His Name Gains Ground

There may not be a more recruit-able pure athlete in the State of Washington right now than Austin Urlacher of Chiawana.

We are not sure when people began to realize that Austin Urlacher was special.  In his home town out in Pasco, Washington they already knew it.  The name speaks for itself and yes, that is Brian Urlacher’s family.  Austin may not pass the “Wow” look test but his onslaught as a running back for the Chiawana Riverhawks is becoming the stuff of legends.  People now know.

From his FB page- Austin seen here doing what he does best- running and jumping with the football in his hands.

Last season several people told us this was the guy to look for this year.  We saw his film from 2013 and his SPARQ scores which were noteworthy if not eye popping.  The 5’10”- 180 lb pure athlete landed a 37 ” vertical and a 4.25 shuttle as well as a 4.7 laser 40 with a leg injury at Nike’s biggest event this season.  Austin possesse that quick twitch explosiveness that can not be coached nor bought in a gym.  It is for real and a great deal of it is genetic and enhanced by his non-stop work ethic.

The Riverhawks took on the Gonzaga Prep Bullpups last Saturday who won the big school division GSL League in the Spokane region.  Thanks to Urlacher and his linemen the Riverhawks repelled GP 38-3 to move on to the Final 4 this weekend.

Austin Urlacher ran wild for 363 yards in about 3 quarters of play and had 2 Touchdowns.  In one of those “WOW” moments Austin hurdled over a GP defensive back and ran for a 36 yard gain.  The young man is doing things he should probably not be doing but he is, none the less, in terms of production.

The tougher the competition the better he gets and he seems to love the pressure.

As of right now Austin Urlacher is the leading rusher in the Pacific Northwest with 2,553 yards and 30 TD’s.  Austin has only played in all 4 Quarters in a couple of games.

“I knew I was expected to be a leader offensively this season and while I was a bit nervous I just went at it day by day,” he said.  “I am finally healthy and a lot faster then I was last year or this Summer.  It has been a great year and this team wants another shot at the Tacoma Dome to defend our State Title.”

Austin was injured last year and never saw any action in the playoffs so these playoff wins are huge for him.  He wants to continue to produce like he has and boy what a special season it has been.

We wanted to know how fast he is because we know he can jump out of the gym and turn on a dime.  But we wondered about his speed.

“Unofficially I have run a 4.3 on a hand time and a 4.6 on a laser timer but that was a while back.  I am a lot faster now I feel.”

He credits the line and the Chiawana defense.  They have been getting it done all season long.  Austin says he knows he and the offense have to continue to produce to win it all.

With all of this happening you would think that he has it made for college.  But you would be wrong as he is hearing from virtually no-one yet.

“I have lots of Division 3 schools in touch.  EWU has shown some interest as has WSU and some others too but it has been quiet I must admit.”

That will change.  Kids like this get recruited as Athletes and any school he plays for at the next level will figure out what to do with him as he gets into the flow.  His unique services may be better at the corner back spot or the slot or wide receiver.  Special teams and running back of course would work too.

Austin reminds us of Rahmel Dockery of Curtis High School in Tacoma.  Dockery was a freak of nature athletically and was initially going to WSU before having to regroup for a year.  He is now at OSU and a force for the Beavers.

We think he is at least a Big Sky kid and he says he was invited to the Apple Cup this weekend and might finish his playoff game and head over there Saturday.  He is wide open at this point.

“I was the C0-MVP at corner back this Summer at a  big passing league event and I had not played corner before.  I know I can be excellent at the wide receiver spot and will look at playing wherever I can for a team that wants me to play for them,” concluded Austin.

His 3.6 GPA and overall persona make him a great choice for someone like WSU, EWU, Montana, or Montana State.  The kid loves the outdoors and those schools we feel will love him.

The Riverhawks are getting ready to play Graham-Kapowsin this weekend and the winner moves on the the final game at the Tacoma Dome.  Austin Urlacher and his team are going to be looking to make that happen this weekend.
