Blake Watts Leads Lakewood Cougars Into Post Season

The Lakewood Cougars out of the 2A Cascade Conference in the North Puget Sound region feature a standout do everything quarterback/safety in senior Blake Watts. Blake was named 1st team all-league quarterback following his tremendous junior pigskin campaign. Watts tossed the rock around for 1138 yards and 15 touchdowns last fall for the Cougs.

The young rifleman connected on 80 of 150 tosses through the airways. The jack of all trades signal caller also zipped and zagged his way for 769 yards rushing with 11 more scores. Blake’s rock solid leadership helped lead the Cougars to a 9-1 record and a trip to the 2A playoffs.

This season Watts has done a lot of bit of everything for Lakewood. After struggling to get their offense going early on, the elusive 6’1″ 195 pounder moved to H-back in an attempt to kick start
their offensive woes. The talented rocket tosser is back as the Cougs signal caller now and is heating up at the right time.  In last week’s demolition of South Whidbey 53-22, Blake hit on 10 of 10 passes good for 176 yards and a touchdown. The nimble senior also dashed for 130 yards and 2 scores via his ground work.

The energized Cougars are sitting at 6-3 on the season, but are 6-1 in league and have clinched the Cascade Conference’s top seed. They open their playoff run with a home tilt against the Burlington-Edison Tigers this weekend.

This slick dual threat quarterback’s all around numbers are truly eye-popping this season. The young slinger has completed 48 of 77 passes, good for 774 yards and 8 scores. He has rushed for another 584 yards on the ground to go with 7 touchdowns. To top it off Watts has 13 receptions for 131 yards receiving.

Watts has also been the Cougars starting free safety the past two campaigns as well. The big hitter has registered 48 total tackles and 3 interceptions during his time in the defensive secondary.

The kids got the skills to play at the next level….let’s see what happens!!
