How did things go yesterday for the boys of he NW? Well the top 5 in Oregon are all locked in and we will touch on that tomorrow. The top 5 in Washington however is a little more wild. Budda Baker is the number one recruit in the NW and perhaps the West. His verbal pledge to Oregon melted down yesterday and that means that a bunch of schools had to call an emergency meeting in their War Rooms and reassess the battlefield. That was big news and in Portland (Or) the Oregonian was dominated by that news over the news the Blazers had beaten a tough San Antonio team. That just proves the point that prep football recruiting is HOT!
Man I can remember when we started a decade ago everyone said “Why would anyone want to read about that”.
Budda is laying low. It seems the UW may have a shot and boy that would be big. More on that to follow.
Meanwhile one of the other Top Recruits is still weighing his options and on officials. Yesterday at the CAL campus Baker’s Bellevue Wolverine team mate, Marcus Griffin, was getting the full recruiting tour and treatment. He check in with us and is still open. Griffin is a 6’3″- 290 pound monster Defensive Linemen and in most books a 4 Star guy all the way. He certainly is at the top in Washington. Marcus has offers from 11 Majors and Cal is near the top of his choices. He is planning a trip to Mississippi State soon and that will allow him to make a final decision. Whoever get Griffin is getting a true work horse and a kid who will impact the team for the better.
We just covered Kaleb McGary from Fife High School who in Wisconsin this weekend and will cover the Nation the next few weeks. He is still looking and like Baker the UW is right there for him as well.
These Washington kids are hot prospects and that is just 3 of the top group. If Chris Peterson can land some of these guys or all of them he is going to gain huge kudos right away (which we think is going to happen anyway). We will keep you informed on what should be a really fun finish to the National Letter of Intent madness!
