The Big-Game of the night was out at Camas, Washington. From the opening kickoff to the closing bell this one belonged to the Camas Papermakers. With a final score of 47-14 the Jesuit Crusaders who were ranked #1 in the Oregon 6A poll are going to have to go back to the drawing boards.
Nate Beasley continued his onslaught of plays, some of them improbable, and scored 5 times in the game for Camas. Four of those coming in the first half.
The top rated QB in Washington Reilly Hennessey was 14 of 17 for 277 yards and 4 TD’s- no picks proving why he is such a hot prospect. The EWU Eagles who he is committed to were in the house big time cheering him on even as some Pac 12 Coaches showed up. And Jesuit’s much vaunted 4 star defenders could not stop him. The kid is just that good.
Zach Eagle for Camas caught 7 passes for 118 yards and showcased hands and feet that are Pac -12 caliber. He was also a huge factor on defense.
Then there was the Camas defense. We said the game would hinge on the battle up front. Led by Defensive Tackle Jason Vailea and DE Michael DiGenova the Papermakers brought pressure and stopped the Crusader run game holding top rated rusher Chase Morrison to just 73 yards on 23 carries. Those two and guys like #57 John Ashford brought constant pressure. Needing to respond Jesuit Qb Eric Restic, just a sophomore, took to the air. And while he connected fairly well several times he also threw two picks.
Camas faced their home crowd prior to the game and did the Kamate – a classic Haka from New Zealand . If that does not get a team pumped up nothing will!
One of those interceptions was grabbed out of the night sky by big Dylan White who sprinted 40 yards plus for the pick six. White was impressive on offense and defense and at 6’5″- 225 lbs is showcasing the sort of talents that teams like OSU who were watching from the sideline can use.
The night belonged to Camas. There can be no doubt that the Crusaders will regroup and like a wounded animal will lash out in response. That is something we have only seen a couple of times in the last decade from them because they simply do not lose; and never like this. A statement was made by Camas last night that they are coming for the crown this year. And from what we saw last night it is theirs for the taking if they continue to play like this.
Here are several hundred pictures from the night – it was one to remember no doubt!
