Oh my goodness is this guy smooth. And he looks so good through 3 games that his projection path is just about vertical. Cameron Scarlett played Varsity ball last season at Central Catholic as a Sophomore and showed by late in the season that he was not intimidated and that he could run with the best of them. This year the 2015 Grad and brother of all American Brennan Scarlett (CAL) is flexing his muscles, his new found size and strength, and his knowledge for the game. After a great win in Week two he was voted by our readers to be the NWPR-Rivals.com Player of the week!
“This season I am way ahead of last year. Playing all year last year let me learn and make mistakes and build confidence. And that is showing up this season,” said the 6’1″- 208 pound running back who is silky smooth to watch and deadly fast.
The Rams are 3-0 and ranked #1 and have chewed through 3 top rated teams in Grant, Sheldon, and Lake Oswego. Cameron has posted 460 yards on the ground, 200 yards receiving, and 120 yard in kick returns. He has 8 TD’s on the year and that totals to about 800 yards. This weekends game, the annual Holy War against Catholic Rival Jesuit, is going to be a battle. The Crusaders are 2-1 and showed last week that they can run that power football like non one else.
“This is going to be a great game. They are a really great team and the Holy War is always a battle,” added Cameron.
Which of his first 3 games was most memorable?
“I would have to say beating Sheldon on the road a long way from home. No one has beat them at home since 2008 and that was a good feeling. The only tough part was the long bus ride home and the cramping. I got hit bad and so did a few of of my team mates. It was crazy riding home like that but good too. We beat a great team in Sheldon,” said the big back.
He rarely plays defense as Coach Steve Pyne is protecting his #1 weapon. And Scarlett has looked so much bigger, faster, and stronger then last year. He is able to glide and make guys miss and then turn on the after burners and drop his shoulder for tough yards too. He thinks his ability to run in between the tackles and hit a big play outside are both strengths.
Cameron talked about his team mate Ryan Nall saying, “Ryan starts at Tailback a lot and I am in the slot. Coach Motions me in a fly sweep look and I do run inside too. But I love breaking off a play to the edge of the defense and turning it up. My Coaches have worked with me a lot making sure I finish off runs and that I initiate contact when I need too.”
His Doctors think he will be 6’2″ to 6’3″ and be about 225. He will stay at RB and competes as a sprinter at CC. So this is a good spot for him to be.
Recruiting wise he is hearing a lot from BYU and Oregon and of course Cal is recruiting him. His brother is playing for the Golden Bears and making an impact too. Other schools sending him info and in touch are OSU, UW, and WSU.
“It’s early in the process so for me I just need to play my best and show what I can do!”
