Chevy Walker of East Side Catholic On His Way

Chevy Walker of East Side Catholic On His Way

It is hard to gain the attention needed as a running back to make it out of the Pacific Northwest and into a big college program.  Bishop Sankey of Gonzaga Prep was in fact the hottest running back we have seen in a number of years from the Pacific Northwest.  But for all the guys that put up huge numbers it seems they usually go under recruited.

In the end it comes down to speed more then anything else.  You either have it or you better develop it because being a star in High School if no guarantee of having a similar success on the collegiate grid iron.  Because when you get to college you are with the best of best and they are all fast.  Position by position they will all have speed and athleticism unlike any they saw in high school.

Chevy Walker has it and is only getting better this off season.  The East Side Catholic work horse put up over 2,000 all purpose yards last year and that was enough to get him some All League and All State awards.  But he is looking for more then that.  He is all about going on to college.

As Walker has watched some of his piers garner offers he has sat and taken calls and waited patiently.  And he is not alone because this Spring not that many Northwest prospects are getting offers and attention.  He plays that waiting game but like most is hungry to show more of what he can do.

“I am ready.  The events and work I have been putting in have me very happy with where I am right now,” said a poised and composed Walker.

At 6’0″ and a lean and muscular 180 pounds Walker is a sleek fast mover with good hands.  He has good top end speed but his quickness and change of direction is so evident after seeing him first hand at the Barton Football 7 On a couple of weeks back.

He plays tailback and shines there but really looked great out of the slot and wide receiver position.  And based upon the picks we have seen him make and his ability to close on a receiver and the ball too he is a two way option.

He plays for former WSU QB Jason Gesser who is his East Side Head Coach.  He had this to say.

“He is 6’0, 180lbs and an explosive player with a big upside. Very long and has the frame and ability to continue to put weight on and get bigger. He had 2,033yds 17tds all-purpose this past season as a Junior, and was the Leagues Offensive MVP and Special Teams MVP. He has a handful of D1 schools talking to him right now and I think he has the ability to play at the D1 level.”

Chevy just got back from the Badger Sports 7 On 7 in Las Vegas at UNLV.  That event went really well according to him.

“Honestly I had a great day Saturday.  We showed up and really showed what the Washington guys can do.  That was great.  I had several touchdowns and 2 or 3 picks too.  But I was not able to stay Sunday and that was the big day I guess.  So I was not happy I had to miss that,” he said.

Walker is a pure athlete and much like Keivarae Russell (Mariner HS) and Cedric Dozier (Lakes HS).  Both have offers and he is hoping he is next.

“I am hearing a lot form Idaho and some other schools.  Right now we are mapping out the camp and combine events I am going to be at and the Collegiate camps too.  Nothing is going to stop me from doing what I can do to improve,” said Chevy.

He is a collegiate talent no doubt.  We believe he will be a scholarship athlete and given the number of kids we know we feel he is one of the very best in this region.  Chevy Walker will earn everything he gets on and off the field.

We wish Chevy and his team a safe and productive spring football season.
