Cody Baker Rises To Top As Spring Comes

After a terrific Junior Campaign at Eastside Catholic High School Defensive End Cody Baker has made a big move.  With a Wyoming offer in hand the 6’3″- 260 lb Defensive End headed out to California for the Rivals Camp sponsored by Under Armour and he did not disappoint.  With Nationally ranked recruits all around him he stepped up and showed up in all the drills and earned himself the #5 spot in the Overall Camp MVP Awards rising to a 3 Star in the Rivals Network!

Cody Baker placed very high in the Camp and raised his stock considerably!

On display was his aggressive nature on the field and his speedy get off the ball.  Cody is tough to stop.

“The Camp was great.  I went in to compete and I felt good about my efforts.  There were some great athletes there and that was a confidence builder for me,” said Baker.

Coach Jeremy Thielbar has a loaded bunch coming back this year and Cody will give him that speed rush pressure guy every down on defense.  Quarterbacks best beware as this guy is a hitter and he knows how to attack the quick-side and the football.  Offensive linemen will need to try and fend him off but his hand fighting skills and leverage make him a potent opponent.  As an offensive weapon he can help out anywhere along the line.  He was First Team Defense and Second Team on Offense and looks to be a First Team prospect both ways this season.

“I am going into Baseball right now which I love.  Not quite as much as football but I do enjoy it.  I play First Base and Pitch and I batted .415 last year so I like to hit that ball!”

He is a rising student athlete and looks to be a qualifier if all goes well; he knows that is priority 1 for him to succeed.

Cody just turned 16 and is expected to reach 6’5″ and possible be 275 within 2 years.  With that speed and agility this young man has an exciting upside!

As far as College he is hearing from a lot of Pac 12 schools including UW, WSU, UCLA, and USC just to name a few.  He will be looking into all his options and says he has recently become interested in “Investment Banking” because his friends parents and others are into that and he sees a nice future there.  And why not?

He has 2 younger sisters and says his Mom’s side of the family has some real athletes in it and some real size!  So maybe thanks may be due to his Mom for this big frame he is showcasing.

Goals for 2014?

“Win!  Be a good leader and team captain this season.  Get faster and continue to work on my speed off the ball!  Balance my time between baseball and football and have some fun in the Summer too!”

How is the team looking?  Ready to make another Championship run at Bellevue?

“Yes we are.  Maybe the most ready of any of the teams we have had.  We have been there two years in a row and we are a confident group and I think we are ready.  A Lot of our Core Players have seen Bellevue and we know what they present having had that experience.  We will work hard to succeed!”

We wish Cody Baker and his Crusaders continued success on and off the field and sure look forward to seeing this big agile kid get after it again this year!
