Connor Humphreys Personifies US Army All American

In our 8th year of coverage for the US Army All American Bowl we were honored to once again be back at Central Catholic High School yesterday.  This is the 4th time we have visited the court yard East of the main school for a US Army All American Bowl jersey presentation ceremony; something most schools have not experienced once.  The Rams hosted the staff from the US Army All American Bowl who came and presented Senior defensive linemen Connor Humphreys with his Jersey; the bold Yellow and Black standards of the West Squad.

Connor was selected as one of the top 90 players in the US and will represent the State of Oregon in the big game in San Antonio, Texas the first week of 2014.  The selection begins with a nomination of many players and final selections are made out of that body of student athletes based on some very high standards that have been set by the staff at the game and US Army.   Humphreys was chosen after a careful review of his film, a transcript review, a look at his work on and off the field, and other investigations that were made.

About 18 months ago we first interviewed this goal oriented kid about his future. Gaining a scholarship to college and playing in this time honored bowl game were 1 and 2 on his list.  He worked and played his way to 15 offers from major schools before selecting Arizona State University.  Now with the selection to the Bowl game wrapped up he is focusing on other goals.  With his team mates he has a laser beam on a State Championship and this might be the year.  The #1 Rams have beat the best in the State so far and are rated #1.

To gain this honor Connor has maintained very high grades, set a schedule of brutal workouts (4:45 AM everyday), and he maintains a job at Buffalo Wild Wings too.  Then there is football where he is a leader and a top performer.  The 6’3″ 277 lb Tackle is a handful for anyone to take on.  All of these things and his integrity, sense of honor, and commitment led to the ceremony and jersey presentation.

Humphreys joins Myles Wade (Texas Tech-NFL), Brennan Scarlett (CAL), and Alex Balducci (Oregon) as US Army All Americans to come from Central Catholic.  Kevin Frahm from CC  is another All American from CC and played in another bowl game his Senior Year.

Each player will have a jersey in the weight room at CC where the legacy lives on and will serve to remind future student athletes of the possibility to make it too.  We congratulate Connor Humphreys and his family and coaches and present the pictures and interviews below for your review.
