You can not give specific credit one way or the other to individuals when it comes to deciding the outcome of a game. At least not in 99% of the cases. But Saturday at Jeld-Wen Field we think that honor can be bestowed upon one of the Sheldon Irish players.
Despite playing terrific defense and stopping the Irish the Lake Oswego Lakers chances at a repeat victory were ended at the hands of one Irishmen in particular.
In the end there was just too much #10.
#10 is Sheldon Senior Connor Strahm. We have had him at the top of the 2013 recruiting lists for a couple of years now. Only Thomas Tyner and Brayden Kearsley have been more highly rated. But based on what Strahm can do for a team he is perhaps the best. That takes into account both sides of the ball; offense, defense, and special teams.
And then there is his off field leadership and personification of the "refuse to lose" mentality that drives all these kids on top teams.
Top to bottom at the end of the day Connor Strahm is 900 pound Gorilla on the field and he is fully decked out in Football Gear and ready to battle. And Saturday he brought his A-Game.
Strahm led the statistical categories in Sheldon's 13-6 win over Lake Oswego Saturday. He plays multiple positions and his 6'1"- 225 Frame and skill set make him able to do it all really. Here are his stats at the end of the Game:
- 5 Carries for Nine Yards and a TD- This was the Game winner.
- 8 Catches for 74 Yards
- 10 Tackles
- 2 4th Quarter Interceptions; both of them spectacular in Nature
Both Interceptions were amazing and killed Laker drives that were moving the ball. One touchdown separated these two great teams from going into overtime. Both teams came in undefeated and were equally talented, coached, and motivated.
Connor Strahm in this one made the difference and despite having 3 or 4 Big Sky level offers we have no doubt this is a PAC 12 player here. Any team will be lucky to have Connor and we believe before signing day his chances and his school choices are going to increase 2 fold.
More on this to follow.
Connor was the Offensive Player of The Year and The Defensive Player of The Year in his Conference and will lead All State Voting in our book.
