Crater High School in Central Point, Oregon is no stranger to football and darn good football. It is safe to say in recent times Crater is a powerhouse program capable of taking anyone out at anytime. The Southern Oregon school gets little love from Oregon media types because they might as well be part of California as far as the Northern based football base is concerned. We are hours apart and they are small and we are big. It’s a different Oregon – a far away rumor of a team on the rise and kids who are tough in the battle. But guess what- Crater is big time. The light of Friday burn there as bright or brighter as ours and they are for real. And they have been for years.
This writer is looking for stories and talent and not BS approach to the best of the best. The Comets, as they are known, took apart a tough Silverton team laying waste to them 45-0 in Round 1 of the OSAA 5A playoffs last week. In the past 7 weeks they have outscored opponents 300-90. They are fast. powerful. and prolific.
This week the Comets who are now 10-o and ranked #2 take on the 7-3 Central Panthers who are a rising team as well. It’s going to be another great game.
On this Comets team are some players that are pure talent. That is how football is own. This is a big time program. And we believe on this team is at least one of the best talents in the State of Oregon.
