|Darnell Adams of Newberg runs back a nice pick against a receiver at PSU Camp this week|
The Newberg Tigers football program is in a rebuilding process but things seem to be headed in a positive direction. Part of that is due to new coaching and new energy. The nasty Veer offense helps too. But leadership is crucial and this year Darnell Adams returns to be that guy.
The returning QB is every bit the athlete and has shown that all Spring and Summer where he has shined as a WR and DB. He is fast, powerful, and has a great nose for the football.
Adams is a three sport athlete competing in basketball, track, and football. He was First Team all league in hoops and a very good sprinter in the 100, 400, and 4 x 100 relay.
At 6’3″ and 185 pounds he has a classic frame for a safety and or WR/ Slot and has the hands and attitude to go with those positions.
“I played QB last year and really learned a lot. The new offense is helping us compete and I can run the ball and throw too out of it,” said Adams who looks forward to the new year.
More athletes are out this year then last year and he senses something good in the air.
“Last year we were just thin on numbers and a lot of guys played both ways all game. Not this year. We have some good depth and the turn out has been very good.”
Adams had a great showing at a few events and recently at the PSU Camp where he showcased a couple of nice picks at DB against some of the regions best.
