The Wolves of Eastlake in Sammamish, Washington have dropped some tough games this season. They are 3-4 and 2-2 in League and have lost 3 games to ranked opponents. Eastside Catholic, Bothell, and Woodinville have all beat the Wolves but no one has rolled them. They battled in each game and they have continued to improve.
Their win against 6-0 Meadowdale of the 3A last week 16-0 was a good one. The game featured the Wolves defense in a shut out and showed that the team is fighting back and not just going quietly to the locker room for season end.
While there is a nice compliment of Seniors the young guns are helping this team through their brutal schedule as well as build for the future. Two of them are really standing out.
That would be Blue and Drew.
Richard "Blue" Thomas and Drew Lewis. A QB and a Running Back/Safety. A Sophomore and a Junior. And both of these young men are really great football players.
Blue is a 5'10"-185 Pound burner who is a dual-threat QB. The kid can flat out play and is quick on his feet. He is making things tough for opposing defenses as he is hard to bring down and even harder to corner. In last weeks game he reversed his field of direction several times and simply made plays happen. Especially in the passing game.
"I feel like that was my most complete game so far this year," offered Blue. "I am getting better every week and feel my best football is ahead of me. The team is stepping up and we have pulled together through these tough losses. Redmond and Roosevelt are ahead and we are one week at a time. But we plan to finish really strong and see what happens."
In the win over Meadowdale Blue hooked up with Senior Cameron Nelson on two nice TD passes. One for 35 and one for 15 yards. That was all they would need to get the 16-0 win.
Now for Drew. Drew Lewis is a 62"-190 Pound RB/Safety who has wowed fans with his ability to break off big runs and run over opponents while doing so. He had a fairly quiet night Friday but is such a great two way player that opposing teams know that is the guy they have to stop.
Lewis is the younger brother of Ryan Lewis who had the RB and Safety/DB Duties last year for the Wolves and took them to Pitt on a scholarship where he is playing as a Freshmen. He has 7 TD's on the season and ran for 247 yards against Inglemoor early this season.
Both of these young guys are starting to generate collegiate interest.
Blue is just getting started on that road while Lewis is attracting a wide array of schools including WSU, Duke, Vandy, Wyoming, PSU, Oregon, Utah, Nebraska, UW, Dartmouth, Harvard, and Boise State.
His speed, size, and lateral mobility is impressive. And his father has a long history in the collegiate and NFL ranks as well. So the genes are just simply there. Lewis reports a 4.65 electronic 40 time and a 31" vertical and has grades to boot. The definition of a Blue Chip.
"I am getting a lot of interest. There are aspects of my game I am happy with and others I need to work on. Defense is where I am certain I will be in college. And I know I can get a lot better in Pass Coverage. Right now the schools are looking at my skill set and seem to like what they see," said Lewis is who planning to take some official visits in the year ahead and take a good look at this list of top choices and attend several of their college camps.
On the Track he runs the second leg of the 4 X 100 and as a Sophomore helped his team set the all time school record and become league and district champs. Not too shabby.
Blue is the son of Richard and Christie Thomas. Husky Fans will remember Richard as an explosive Running Back in the 1990's who rushed for close to 1,200 yards and helped them to major Bowl Victories. He and Christie met at Kentwood High School and have been involved in the community ever since.
He is a terrific student and three sport athlete and likes the way the team is going. We asked Thomas to break it down for us as far as this Eastlake Team goes. He had this very mature response:
The Meadowdale win was big. That was a real confidence builder and we are looking better for sure now then we were earlier in the season. We have some real weapons and credit has to go to the O-Line for getting it done and giving me time.Drew Lewis: Our big play guy. A Junior who is rangy and tall. He is terrific at stretching the field and has good speed. those things set up the play action game for us.and his efforts create openings and holes and he is a really good with his power and separations. In the passing game all the guys have Impressed me: But we have 3 main weapons.#1 Senior is Cameron Nelson (6'2"-180 pounds). He is #24 is tall and he runs well. Against Meadowdale he caught two TD's and he helps us get the ball moving on long plays.#3 Junior Gage Casal : He is a speed guy and can beat guys. He runs so hard and he hits the holes and finds openings. He is our. 50/50 guy, a down and distance guy, a really good SLOT.#13 Sophomore- Jeffrey Feinglas ( 5'11"-180 pounds) Jeff is a thick kid. He is our gamer and loves to mix it up. This is the guy you want blocking at the point of attack. He has great hands too and is in on all our bunch and screen sets. These are three stand out guys of several who contribute and with Drew back in the backfield we are developing some weapons and are upbeat about the future.
