The best looking linebacker in the Region this year is arguably Danny Mattingly of Mead High School in Spokane. With 20 major offers Danny is headed off to Notre Dame after his 2013 season. But a lot of guys are fighting for the right to be considered an elite linebacker and hang in that same level of recruitment. One of them who is really close to Mattingly in every way is Beaverton High School stud Evan Colorito.
He has been on our radar since his freshmen year. He has NFL genes and the frame and build to boot. At 6'4" and headed to the 250 range (He is at 230 now) he is going to be a beast this season. His rangy build, speed, and leaping ability help him to be a terrific guy in pass coverage and he is tough off the edge as a speed rush guy. Where he excels is at fundamental football as he rarely slips a tackle and has explosive hips.
With PSU, Montana, Colorado State, and now Colorado offering him he has risen to the top of the heap. It makes a whole lot of sense that OSU and maybe even Oregon will be next and he says WSU and UW are in on him as well.
We already know that Colorito 3.0 is going to dominate the Metro Leagues in his section of the field and that his film will show that in 2013. How far can he go? All the way to the top. He is a 2 or 3 Star guy right now and will only get hotter and hotter. While he can be a good TE at the next level it would be an affront to nature if this hard charger was denied his skill as a linebacker; and he could be used in that walk up LB/DE hybrid role that is becoming very popular now.
Here is Evan Colorito with us a couple of weeks back!
