Fly Like An Eagle With The Federal Way Brotherhood

Going back to Federal Way was fun.  You see I had not been there for years and the last time I was at Federal Way High school my wife was showing me her old stomping grounds.  But Thursday Night was a treat as I got to hang out with not only the Federal Way Eagles but their fans, Coaches, and Community too.

The Eagles have a beautiful football field and it was great to be in such a well lit environment.  You would be surprised how many of us that shoot a lot of pictures appreciate that.  And while the school itself is aged and the community some changed for the better and the worse, like most towns, it was the people that shined so brightly.

I can not tell you how honored I was to be there on Senior Night and to see the love and support for the boys in blue as they played the last game they will ever play on their home field.  And the emotions were palpable.

If you ever stood there on Senior Night as a plyer or a parent you know what I mean.  When we did with our kids it was surreal.  At that point as a parent your sad and excited at the same time because you realize that this marks an end to something that has dominated your life for many years and many Friday Nights.

There were tears and hugs and kisses and lots of pictures and Families.  And it was my good fortune to be there and experience that again.

It was an equally big honor to watch the Eagles play.  In fact with the banner of "Brotherhood" etched in a wooden sign being held up as the game started we did not see them play.  No.

We saw them Soar.

They beat Spanaway Lake 42-13 with Offense and Defense as the Sentinels fought hard but faced a superior opponent.

This team feels like they are on the verge of something great.  At 7-0 they have already surpassed what most teams ever dream to do by this point in the season.

Maybe that will change as they have some tough teams these next two weeks in Auburn and Curtis .  But they have a good shot to go perfect in the regular season.

There were so many great plays out there for the Eagles that it is hard to single out any one guy.  But we can look at a few of them and talk to their overall contribution.

Here are just a few thoughts starting with these Seniors in Part 1 of a 2 Part story on the Brotherhood.

D'Londo Tucker 6'1"-175 WR/DB:  The inspiration no doubt that the team is experiencing to a great extent stems from this young man and the loss he has suffered.  He lost his Father and another close famil member this season.  And that has been tough no doubt.  But this young man who has offers to move on to college is the finest defensive corner we have seen live this season.  He is also a terrific receiver. How he is doing the things he is doing is clear.  God given talent and Brotherhood.  Any team at any level would be blessed to have this young man on their team.

Marcel Morris 5'10"-170 Pounds WR/DB:  As we looked at our film we found #1 in a lot of action shots.  That was testament to the high motor and non-stop energy he brought onto that field.  A very talented athlete.

Mike Tate 6'1"-175 Pounds WR/DB:  Mike has several offers to date.  He has great top end speed and phenomenal hands.  It is MIke's ability to go vertical and make those tough grabs that make him special because he can flat out fly.  One of the top 2-3 receivers in the Pacific NW this year.  Great family too!

Rod Jones Junior 6'1.5"-233 Pounds LB/RB:  A tough nosed kid on both sides of the ball.  Rod is that special combination of size and speed you want on your team to get the W.  One of the premier 2 -way athletes in the NW and his whistle to whistle Motor was impressive.  A key factor to the teams wins.  He struck me as a quiet leader too.  Love that.  Just a matter of time now for him to get offers.

JJ McNeal 5'7"-165 Pounds DB/WR:  One of two talented brothers (Ezekial was in DC on a School Trip but is a 6'1"-180 Pound Wr/DB highly skilled too).  JJ has quickness and explosive hips.  He is a passionate player and excellent special teams and utlility guy too.  We see him and Ezekial moving on to the college ranks no doubt.

Albert Havili 6'2"-235 Pounds LB/OL:  With Offers from Montana State and EWU he is truly amazing.  The kid was in on a majority of plays. Albert is powerful, fast, and ferocious.  He had at least a dozen tackles and threatened the Spanaway Lake QB almost every down.  He did a superb job as an O-linemen too.

Winston Havili 6'1"-215 Pounds OLB/DB:   Winston has many of the same attributes that his brother has.  He was tough to beat on the edge.  With Jones JR and his brother among others we wish opposing teams the best of luck trying to run that football.  Yikes!

Evan Elliot 5'10"-175 QB/DB:  Evan did a nice job of leading this offense.  His poise stood out more then anything.  He knows he has talented receivers and uses his ability to find them to his advantage.  A kid that is not getting a lot of Headlines but through him the team is able to run an explosive offense.

Marcus Fielder 6'3"-215 Pounds WR/OLB:  Lanky, Lean, Long, and Powerful.  This young man has "X" Factor written all over him.  When teams are mobbing up your star players it is guys like Marcus who will get the W for you.  In that body with that skill set Marcus can move on to college without a doubt where he can be a veru good student athlete.

Day-Day Boles-Williams 5'7"-250 Pounds:  If you know Day-Day your life is better for it.  The young man from Lakes HS transferred to Federal Way this season and was brought in with open arms to the Brotherhood.  He is the best team mate you could ever have and the best sort of kid for a Coach to have.  Day-Day lights up the locker room and the field.  It was with great pride that I saw Day-Day handling opposing linemen on both offense and defense.  He is so thick and stout that his stature, which let's face it Day-Day your not 6'9", does not matter.  To see him out there playing and battling it out is flat out fun and he is making a difference for the team.  A Glass half full guy with the heart of a lion.

Other Outstanding Federal Way Seniors are:  Cyrus Stewart (5'10"-185 WR/DB), Tre'Waughn Sterling Holmes (5'9"-165 WR/DB), Branden Warren (5'11"-175 WR/DB), Baylen Warren (5'9"-160 Pounds WR/DB), Trevyon Meadows (5'8"-220 RB/LB), Deven Isaacs (6'3"-265 Pounds OL/DL), Andy Ah Fua (5'11"-250 Pounds OL/DL)

Coach John Meagher and his staff have done an amazing job this season for the Boys in Blue and it is clear that the entire Organization is on the rise under their leadership.  We thank them for the opportunity to come and be a part of Senior Night, Federal Way Football, and of the Brotherhood; even if only as a bit player.

We will be featuring the under classmen this week in a feature story on the young guns of the Federal Way Eagles.  That will be a fun story too believe me.

Here are some great pics we grabbed from the game which are yours for FREE and some interviews with some of these Seniors.

What a great story about the FW Eagles and as a parent of an Eagle player I can say you are right on. This is a very special group of boys that play as a TEAM they love and support each other through the good and the bad. This has been a tough year they lost a teamate and Dlondo\’s Dad. It has been a great experience as a parent watching these boys and I am so proud of all of them
