Grant Woods Leads Lions Who Could Surprise in 3A Playoffs

The Kennewick Lions head into the state 3A playoffs riding the hot hand of elusive running back Grant Woods. Grant gashed the Pasco defense in the regular season finale for 198 yards on 23 carries with 4 touchdowns.

Last season Woods played 2nd fiddle to the Lions all-everything runner/passer Drew Loftus. He ran for 408 yards and 5 touchdowns and was selected as a 2nd team All-Columbia Basin Big Nine League 3A kick returner and honorable mention as a running back.

This year the nimble 5’8″ 165 pound senior has upped the ante a bit. The electrifying Woods has rolled for 1178 yards on 155 carries and 14 scores. He leads the CBBN in rushing and is again one of the top kick returners. He plays a pretty ferocious cornerback on the defensive side of the rock as well.

Woods and his pack of Lions are currently sitting at 8-1 on the campaign. They are the #10 ranked ball club in the 3A polls and hold the #2 seed out of the CBBN, behind unbeaten and #4 ranked Kamiakin.

The Lions lost a hard fought defensive battle royal to their cross town rivals earlier in the season, 14-7. They will
tangle with the Greater Spokane League’s #2 seed at home next weekend.

Grant is also a gifted 3 sport athlete as well. He qualified for the state meet in wrestling at 152 pounds last winter. In the spring the speed merchant runs the
100 meters, 200 meters and long jumps for the Lions track squad.
