Gridiron Ghost
G.I.G. checked in via email just a few minutes ago; this is his first official report

The Gridiron Ghost floated around the Puget Sound area. On Thursday he headed down to Ingersoll Stadium on a beautiful clear night to watch the O’Dea Fighting Irish take on the Capital Cougars which has become a competitive battle the last several years. Last year the two teams face each other twice with the Cougars ending up in the winning side at both the season opener and sending The Irish packing in the state quarterfinals.

The Irish had a different plan on Thursday night.  The Irish scored with their opening drive which took 68 yard and 10 plays and Jomari (Jo-Jo) Brooks knocking in a 2 yard run for the touchdown.  Senior CaptainJayshawn Jordan ran for 110 yard on 18 carries and an interception on Defense.

Sophomore quarterback Pierre LeDorze threw for a 55 yard touchdown to Junior Tatum Taylor.  LaDorze also had a 2 yard run for a touchdown. Taylor ran for an 85 yard kickoff return but was called back on a holding penalty.

Capital’s running back Kai Van Sickle ran for 106 yards on 21 carries and one touchdown most of which came in the first half.  Steven Malepeai scored Capital’s other touchdown.

The Irish defense put things on lockdown in the second half only allowing 7 total yards led by senior captainCody Fulleton along with defensive ends David Dempsey and Brian Carter and DT Austin Ishmael.  Senior Johnny Jackson caught two interceptions one in the first quarter and his second pick of the night occurred during the fourth quarter with 13 seconds left on the game clock for a 45 yard pick six.

On Friday The Ghost was hovering over many different football fields in Western Washington.  His first stop of the afternoon was at Blanchet High School where the Bellarmine Prep Lions took on the Braves in a lopsided game with the Lions beating the Brave 42-0.  The Lions scored quick and often. Captain Joe Lovejoy started the scoring strikes with two quick touchdowns and he ran for 100 yards on 10 carries.

Lions Quarterback Sefo Liufau threw for two touchdowns a 44 yarder to (UW commit) Michael Rectorand the sure handed hard hitting junior Calvin Chandler for a 60 yard TD.  Junior Isaiah Flynn ran for 194 yards with 14 carries and 2 touchdowns.

Then the Ghost head south to Harry Lang Stadium to watch the first half of the Lakes vs. Clover Park hometown rivalry. The Lancers seem to be in mid-season form in their opener.  Ma’ne Manaea was glad to be out on the field this season competing with his teammates. Manaea had 4 catches for 120 yards and 3 TD’s.

Taking over at quarterback for the Lancers was David Wood the signal caller was 10 of 13 for 237 yards and 6 touchdowns.

The Ghost final stop of the evening was the Mount Tahoma vs. Lincoln in Tacoma.   Both teams were in a battle up until the fourth quarter.

The Abes were up 28 to 21 in the 3rd quarter when the T-Birds started to run away with the game with the strong legs of senior running backs Tevin Novak and Rondie Pate.  Pate finished the evening with 146 yards on only 8 carries.

“It was a spectacular night of football,” said the Gridiron Ghost.  “This was a week to remember for me as I used to compete on most of these same fields I visited.  So seeing so many great performances was of course bittersweet for me.”

Next week the Ghost will be back with us covering whatever he fancies…it should be a fun night once again.  Thanks to G.I.G. for his report.

What do you all think?  We love the guy so far but trying to get him to sit down for a meeting seems to be next to impossible.

Stand by for the next appearance of the Grid Iron Ghost and if your at a game Friday Night look up and you just might see him there above the lights.
