This is the call we love to get. The first call to let us know that the Dream has become a reality and that the impossible has become the possible. Tonight we got that call from one of the most talented kids in the entire Region who has sort of stayed farther off the radar then he should be. Maybe being from a lesser known program in Vancouver will do that.
But we got the call from E’lon Mack of Heritage High School tonight and it was energizing in every way,
“Oh my gosh. Wow! I just got my first offer just know and I needed to let you know. WOOOHOOOO!,” said Mack. “Man this is such a great feeling. It’s my first offer and it came from Idaho and I am really happy about that.”
6’0″, an 11.0 100 Meters, 190 lbs of muscle, and all smiles. E’lon is a kid that has a light about him and an infectious smile and even while his home faces some serious challenges with his Mother’s health he has persevered.
We see E’lon at the Air One Football Academy in Portland on weekends once and a while and he is so gifted. The years of watching this has let us be comfortable in our assessments. We knew but he was not sure.
“I was starting to get nervous there for a bit. I kept telling myself to be patient and I know this can take a while but man this feels good. WHEW!! :
Coach Mike Mickens came in on E’lon and swooped in on him. He made a visit to the school, had a look at the transcripts and the film, and made the offer. The Vandals have been actively recruiting the region and seem to be more aggressive in Clark County then almost anyone. Many kids get that first offer from the D-2 or D-1 AA but Idaho is D-1 and with new Coach Paul Petrino known for his offensive fire power E’lon is excited this is a reality.
“It is for Wide Receiver for sure. And I could really see playing for them. This is a dream come true for me and my family,” he added.
This was a real blessing today for the family as his mom has really been battling some illness and to the point of not being able to help her son the way she would like to. Now she can relax a bit and focus on herself and her health. That thanks to Idaho who has given her son the one thing she has expressed to us she has wanted more then anything.
Pretty great story for the Mack family tonight.
