Isaiah Brandt Sims Grabs Stanford Offer

The fastest kid in the 2014 recruiting class in this part of the Nation landed his 12th offer when the Stanford Cardinal moved in on him this week.  That was a big moment in the life of Isaiah Brandt Sims; the student-athlete from Wenatchee, Washington.  Will the Cardinal offer pull his verbal pledge?

"It is a big offer for sure.  And I am talking with my Mom about the plan for deciding what to do," said Isaiah.  "Right now I am leaning towards waiting towards the end of the High School season to decide."

Stanford has the sort of degree programs he would like and there is no doubt they are the class of the Pac 12 South right now.  In previous conversations he has discussed that "The Farm" as it is known would be a top choice for him.  Lucky for Brandt-Sims he is a special athlete who has a lot of choices and no doubt will have more coming in.

The UW has been on him since day 1 and it is a priority that they land him.  Utah, SMU, BYU, Harvard, and Yale among others are all after him and have offered and there are others like Oregon and OSU looking closer.

"Coach Randy Hart called a couple weeks ago from Stanford and we spoke for quite a while.  He said they were looking everything over and would be in touch.  Then a couple days ago I had a message to call Coach Shaw and when I did we spoke for a while and he let me know they were making me an offer," said Isaiah.  "It was sort of shocking and awesome at the same time.  Really a great feeling."

Stanford explained to the now 185 lb. land rocket that he could be a tailback but would suit them better lining up in the slot and at wide receiver.

"Coach said they would move me all over the place and that is fine with me!"

Fresh off Track season Isaiah won the 100 Meter and the 200 Meter for the 3 rd year in a row in Washington's 4 A big school division.  This is unprecedented and with him capable of breaking the all time 100 Meter and 200 Meter records all time we are looking at a historic athlete who can do it all.

We sort of find ourselves asking why this kid does not have more offers?

If speed is the main asset to have he is the Gold Standard.  Any other kid who has his size and a 10.4 100 Meter and a 21.24 200 Meter would have a lot more attention.  The answer to that lies in the way he has been utilized and where he plays far from the limelight..

"As a Sophomore I did a lot of things to help the team.  I went everywhere.  Last year I was used in the first part of the year in a lot of ways but it was not until the second half of the year that Coach began to use me more.  Then I had some more productive games which was nice."

This season he should be a work horse out of the backfield and he is ready.  A 2,000 yard season is realistic and then some.  The kid who was 178 lbs last year is going to come onto the field at 190-195 this year and even faster.  All of that should allow him to overcome the fact he plays far to the East of the Cascade Mountains off the grid so to speak where recruiting is not as hot as the bigger towns.

He is the 12th ranked All Purpose Back in the Nation and one of the top recruited athletes in the NW.  This Senior year of his is going to allow him to punctuate an already stellar career and put his stamp on the grid iron the way he has with Track.

What about the Panthers season?

"We have a Camp in two weeks then it will be a lot of work together as a team until 2 a days.  We are organizing our own 7 on 7 Team and will be competing together around some different events here in the NW.  We think we can be pretty good this year," he said.

He gave high marks to his QB Dillon Sugg as well as Seniors Spencer Smith, Brock Stone, and Blake Aguilar who make up the main receiver core.  Then there is his not so little brother, Christian, who is a sleek 6'2" Sophomore wide receiver who has already begun to show he is going to make some noise of his own.  Add to that the Stoll brothers and guys like Trey Adams (6'7"-265 lb OL) and Linebacker Cy Sirmon and others and you have the makings for an explosive team.

"It should be a really fun year for all of us," he said.

Isaiah is going to make his mark wherever he goes.  That is just what he does.  Beyond the speed and the offers this young man is an awesome student and according to all we know about him he is a community leader and a great friend and person to all he comes into contact with.

The sort of kid we can all be happy for and get behind as yet another shining example of the caliber of athletes we are putting out of the Pacific Northwest!
