Isaiah Brandt-Sims Now Second Fastest Student Athlete In US – Offers Loom Large

Today a little more then a week later he and his Mom drove across the Cascades and he went up against the best college and High School athletes from this Region at the UW Dempsey Indoor. And he decimated everyone in his path on his way to an almost unbelievable 6.70. That .07 improvement may not seem like much but when you consider that there is now one US athlete at the Indoors so far running a 6.70 or faster (Cameron Burrell) it is pretty amazing.

Brandt -SIms from Wenatchee is now a National threat in the sprints!

It was just a couple days ago we wrote to tell you about the incredible speed displayed by Wenatchee High School Junior Isaiah Brandt-Sims.   His 6.77 indoor 60 Meter Time  a little over a week ago was the best time at the WSU Invitational and in the Nation this season.

Here is that story!

This included Isaiah beating all the top sprinters from UW,  Oregon,  Cal, and a handful of other schools.  And he is a Junior in High School for goodness sake!

Here are the results:

Finals
  1 Brandt-Sims, Isaiah Unattached 6.70
  2 Ducre, Greg Unattached 6.76
  3 Delaney, Arthur Oregon 6.78
4 Murray, Shaun Southern Utah 6.79
  5 Oliver, Dash California 6.85
  6 Mathis, Dior Oregon 6.87
  7 Satterwhite, Quadelle Washington 6.91
8 Hern, Michael UC Riverside 6.91
  9 Kelley, B.J. Oregon 6.94
 10 Wheeler, Chase California 6.97
11 Steffen, Brock Western Washington 7.04
 12 Anthony, Matt Washington 7.07

So what we know now more then ever is that Brandt-Sims is not only fast.   He is record speed sort of fast.  We know this because guys like Maurice Green and Justin Gatlin who represent the US in the Olympics and World Championships were not faster then this in High School.

Last year Gatlin ran a 6.46 to win the Gold Medal at the World indoor Championships.  The second and third times were 6.56 and 6.60.  And this are 25-30 year old men who train year around.

“This meet was amazing.  I knew I had run a great 60 Meters but that was a shock to hear 6.70 you know.  I am really blessed,” said Brandt-Sims who of course was happy to set a new PR and to win another meet only adding to his cache.

Now we cover him as a football player usually.  And right there at the finish line today was a Coach from the UW who bumped into Isaiah to assure him he had a scholarship coming.

“It’s pretty crazy right now.  ASU has been in touch with my Sprint Coach and let him know if I commit 100% to Track they have a Full Ride for me.  Then to hear UW is close and ready to offer me for football is great too.  Beyond that just this past week since you covered that story on my win at WSU Oregon State, ASU, and Colorado State have all been to school to meet with my coaches and look at my transcripts.  So things have jumped up really fast.”

So what’s a kid like this to do?  He had offers from SMU and others for football.  But at this point he can expect to have most of the Pac 12 and all of the major Track schools coming in on him.  Then he has to figure out Track, Football, or both.  But right now he and his Mom Tracy are on their way over the Cascades smiling knowing that great things lie ahead for the boy who has found out he can really fly!

A meet at WSU and then again at UW for the Brooks Invitational are on his schedule.  So you can catch him soon enough. It is going to be something to see how this plays out indoors before we head for the outdoor meets.

God speed Isaiah.  Run for more of those records!
