One of the finest QB’s in this years recruiting class is 6’5″- 210 pound Jake Luton of Marysville-Pilchuck High School. The rangy gunslinger has been right there at the top of the list for 2014 QB’s with all the top names. And a few months back the productive pro-style QB received an offer from the Idaho Vandals to become one of the only NW QB’s with a chance to play D-1 Football next season on a scholarship.
Jake has made the decision to commit to the Vandals and wanted to let us know right away. He and his 8-0 Tomahawks are having quite a season and making a case that they can win it all this year. So big Jake decided it was time to get these college plans done.
“I continue to hear from a lot of schools but Idaho was my best offer and I love the coaches and the program,” said Luton who love to throw the ball.
And throw he will in the pass happy offense of first year coach Paul Petrino who showed a strong interest in Luton from the start.
“I called Coach Petrino and let him know. He was pretty pumped up for sure. And he had me talk to Coach Bryce Erickson (QB Coach) who I am really looking forward to working with,” said Jake. “Idaho is close to home and is just going to be a really great fit.”
Jake was exposed to Idaho at the NWEFC Camp run by Cole Morgan and Eddie Behringer; the camp we continue to see generate real benefits for kids. See NorthwestEliteSports.com!
Back on the current season he is now free to focus 100% on his team and making a run. The boys play this week Oak Harbor for the WESCO Title and are looking for a closer game then they have had in weeks past. Like several players we have spoken to Luton has played early but not late in a lot of games as the Tomahawks keep blowing teams up. In the weeks ahead he will no doubt be tested and expects to throw the ball more.
“Austin Joyner is so dynamic in the backfield that he is our main weapon,” said Jake. “When we throw we are very effective with top guys like Deion Stell (Slot Receiver-Back), Dante Fields (6’3″-205 lbs) WR, and Chris Jones (5’10”-170 lbs)WR among others. The talent is terrific on our team and I think we are ready to make a serious run.”
Jake is a solid leader and wants a shot at the Tacoma Dome, Bellevue, and whatever stands in the way. His confidence is very high and rightfully should be. We congratulate Jake on his big decision and think Idaho is getting a good one in this guy!
