Tigard Looks To Get Even Into The Fray

Or would it be incoming Junior and Tigard stud Jett Even? A kid who has quietly gone about the business of getting ready for his turn and who has grown 5″ in the last year or so.

The answer to the question came when the news rolled in that the Stelk crew were moving out to Canby for the 2012 season. A place where big Sam will settle in at the helm and presumably get the opportunity he was wanting.

Tigard Looks To Get Even Into The Fray

One thing we know about the Tigard Tigers in 2012 is that their ground game is going to Roar!  Returning for the Boys of Durham Road are three of the finest Running Backs in the Pacific Northwest and they are all very dangerous weapons.  The Trio of Kaz Greene, Benny Wick, and Zach Floyd combined for 3000 plus yards last year and this year looks no different as they are all bigger, faster, and stronger.

The only question at Tigard a month ago was who would take the helm as the QB.  Would it be Senior Sam Stelk who had come to Tigard from Sisters, Oregon looking for a shot to play in Oregon's 6A Division?  A stand out at DE last season he saw limited duty as a Junior even though many thought he might.  At 6'5" and 240 he is an imposing looking kid and has a great skill set.

Back at Tigard Jett appears to be the guy.  We have seen him a lot in the off season and he never fails to impress.  Remembering he is really young it is not hard to realize he has the frame and the tool set to be very special.  And his shot is coming now!

At doubles last week he was solid.  Poised and calm in the pocket he made pass after pass and did a nice job of distributing the ball.  And he is cool.  He sure did not look like a kid facing his first Varsity start in a few days.  So we thought an interview was imperative and tonight we bring that to you.

Here is our Q and A with incoming Junior Jett Even:

OP/NWPR:  Jett First of all congrats on being the apparent New QB at Tigard.  What is that like?

Thanks! It is such a great feeling, I have worked so hard for this and for it to happen is just awesome. Our team has done such a good job during Spring and Summer and I'm just really excited for this season.

Jett how was the offseason in terms of things you did to prepare?

The off season has been a lot of hard work with my teammates throwing, lifting, and running. I worked a bunch with Coach Ruecker working on my drops and reads. I went to the Nike combine at Tigard as well as the NFTC down in Eugene. I also went to a combine at West Salem.  I worked with Coach Ralph Greene and Matt James to improve my speed and quickness. It has been a very good off season.

Busy boy for sure.  Jett how big are you now and how are your physical skills coming?

I am a little over 6 foot 3 and weight is about 178.  I have improved my speed and feel good about it.  I also feel we have a very fast team in general.

The Tigard offense is a Run 70 Pass 30 sort of offense.  How is that and how do you like it?

I am liking the offense a whole lot. We have 3 great running backs who could start at most high schools across the State. They run so well that our running game will open the passing game wide open. Our line is very good and fast and have done a great job leading the way for us. I feel very confident with our offense.

Passing or Running.  What is your best skill out there as a QB?

Throwing for sure. I can run but in our offense I usually don't; plus everybody is keying on our running game and we have very talented receivers.

I feel i am but all I'm focusing on right now is how I can make this team as good as it can be.

College wise is there anything happening yet for you as young as you are?

I have only received a few camp invitations from a few schools.  I'm just working hard to be a great quarterback for a great team.

Jett tell us a little about the team and how things are looking so far. Who is impressing you and stepping up?

Our team is looking real good.  The line is doing an outstanding job after losing a few all league players and an all state player.  Our Receivers are running crisp routes.  Our 3 running backs are just awesome.  We look really fast and I like that.  Really exited for this season.

Thanks Jett.  That's a wrap.  Great stuff and good luck.  We will see you out there on Friday's!

Thanks for all you guys do to help all of us too!
