Joel Skotte Goes For Four As Dreams Become Reality

Joel Skotte Goes For Four As Dreams Become Reality

Every High School athlete dreams of going on to the next level. Some can see it and taste it and it is always right there in their mind. A Dream and nothing more. For a lucky few they will realize the dream and it may happen just in an instant without them realizing it. When that happens it is very special.

For Mountain View’s Joel Skottehis dreams have become his reality and it happened all in the last 30 days. First it Was WSU and Air Force. A few days later it was Boise State.

Then this past Friday it really hit him. As he sat in the office of OSU Head Coach Mike Riley he was mystified.

“We want you to play football for Oregon State Joel. The Beavers are extending you a full ride scholarship,” said Riley.

The past few years Skotte has been to quite a few Beaver games with his brother Dan who has since graduated. But he got a good taste of Beaver Nation then and loved it all.

While he may not be bleeding Orange and Black he is a big fan.

“This was surreal. I mean there I am hearing Coach Riley say that and I am thinking to myself it is like a dream. It was so special and it means a lot. We are all very excited,” he opined.

On his visit to OSU he met Coach Mark Banker and Jay Locey and spent time with them both. He saw a lot of things he wanted to see and so did his Dad who went with him.

“This was just an unofficial visit but it turned into much more. I really had no indication they were that interested and I was told they are loaded at Line Backer where I expect to play. So the offer caught me off guard.”

So the Beavers have an edge and for sure have the home field advantage for the services of the 6’3″, 225 pound jack hammer from Bend. But he is not quite ready to verbally commit.

“We are so honored and it is a certainty the Beavers are right at the top of my list. Having said that I never imagined I would have schools like Boise State and Air Force in the mix. Every one of these schools are terrific and I owe it to myself to look close at each one before I decide,” he said.

Joel is not really interested in shopping himself around. He will visit UCLA who he has heard quite a lot from and maybe Stanford if there seems to be any interest after they see his film. After that though he will settle in and prepare for the season.
