Last Saturday we made our way up to Tacoma to see the Lincoln Abes battle it out with the Roosevelt Roughriders. It was 48-7 at halftime with Lincoln flexing their muscles and the rout was on. The game ended 54-7 and we got a chance to see one of the top 5 teams in the Pacific NW get a warm up against a young Roosevelt squad who battled but just could not hang with the Abes.
Standouts for Roosevelt were few but we did immediately see #17 Bishop Dixon, Junior QB and LB, making a great showing both sides of the ball. He is one we will be watching from here on out.
For the Abes we saw the triumphant return of Dionte Simon who cracked off 8 carries for 2 TD’s and 104 yards on 8 Carries. The Senior had his season cut short last year with a bad injury and the team opened the night with him gathering the guys together and thanking them for being there for him through the down time. A true talent Simon is one kid that will be a force to stop all year- speed and intelligence abound with him.
Joey Sinclair showed his play making and his leadership. The Senior QB had 11 passes for 173 yards and 3 TD’s with a 17.2 yard average and a 72% completion ratio. He added 80 yards and a rushing TD too- this guy is the perfect leader for this band of talented kids from Tacoma.
Tony Archie and Alvin Johnson, both Senior Wide Receivers, were on their game with Archie grabbing 8 balls for 103 yards and TD and Johnson landing 30 yards and a TD too.
Up front Quazzel White, a 6’5″- 280 lb Junior, was terrific. He dominated both sides of the ball and we have him on the list of top linemen to recruit for next seasons recruiting class. Kameron Smith also looked solid and at 6’8″- 310 lbs it is easy to see why he has offers.
Darrien Williams rarely saw a pass come his way because he is that good at DB. He was as advertised a lock-down guy. In the performance of the night we have to commend Senior Safety Mushawn Knowles for his sideline to sideline coverage. He was in on almost every tackle and he is so fast and fundamentally good that he makes his presence known every play. This sets the bar for the rest of the guys – a Senior who believes the team can win it all.
6 or 7 of these athletes are on the NWPR ALL NW TOP 200 list – more then any other team this season. The road is open for these guys to win it all. A mature team that Jon Kitna brought in as Freshmen this group now appears to be the finest of all teams Lincoln has had and guys who have the right stuff.
Here are some great film highlights from our partners over at UTR- Pretty great stuff-
