Sitting her tonight in my spot where I often grind it out until 2 AM I see lots of talent that has been sent my way. Sometimes athletes send it in or their coaches and of course I get lots from Parents. Usually it’s good stuff. Sometimes its better then good and sometimes its exceptional.
The thing that gets me extra stoked is when one of the Top athletes in the Region sends me film and puts their stamp on it and its not for them but for a team mate. These top tier guys, the ones on their way to America’s best schools, were all one of the guys we watched a year or two before. There is an honor code among us. They are not sending me just anyone but someone that is special.
“This is the next guy up Coach,” said Connor Humphries of Central Catholic two years back as he introduced me to Tobe Okafor as we walked off the field with the 6 A Oregon State Title trophy in hand. “He will be big!”
Okafor is with 10 plus offers- and Humphries an All American is now making his impact at Arizona State.
Over the weekend Gonzaga Prep Bull Pup and top linemen recruit this season Evan Weaver sent me a note to look at his team mate Taj Hoard. He simple told me to look at his film and help the kid up a notch.
“Hey Dirk I just thought I’d let you know of a new and upcoming player. He’s a linebacker Junior this year. The kid is good. Here are his highlights.”
It’s these films that I get to watch in the last moments of each day that keep me looking to the horizon for the next guy. It’s all of you readers and coaches and you top guns that keep the NW Brand rising up every year. I find them too and lots of them but without your help we could not continue in this work.
Evan thank you pal! That is some world class film right there. And Taj I know we don’t know each other yet but we will. It’s the playoffs and you GP boys have unfinished business to attend to.
For now I will say at 6’0″+ and 225 lbs this Junior just jumped up onto our Top 200 and for now I’ll just call him the Sackmaster General. I know it’s sort of dumb but it’s late.
