Talented Laker Nick Underwood Earns Air Force Honor

Nick is a not stop worker and there have been some real highlights in these past few years. Winning a State Championship as a Sophomore and going again as a Junior to the final are two of them. And there have been many standout performances along the way for the 6-1″ 225 lb Linebacker / Runningback while he has roared across the Friday Night Fields for the Lake Oswego Lakers.

Talented Laker Nick Underwood Earns Air Force Honor

If you go to his Facebook Wall your going to see a banner picture of something that many people like to quote or to say but not as many actually live by.  By all accounts Nick Underwood is one student athlete that does just that.

"Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard."

Nick is a non stop worker and there have been some real highlights in these past few years.  Winning a State Championship as a Sophomore and going again as a Junior to the final are two of them.  And there have been many standout performances along the way for the 6-1" 225 lb Linebacker / Runningback while he has roared across the Friday Night Fields for the Lake Oswego Lakers.

Add another one today for Nick and this one comes from just flat out hard work.

Air Force Academy has offered the Junior giving him his first crack at the Division 1 ranks and a huge oportunity and honor to play for one of the most pretigious schools in the Nation.  And it was not easy to attain.  Nick has been under review for the past two years by the Staff at Air Force and has kept the communications going while they continued to review him on and off the field.

It paid off this week and Nick says he is extremely honored and that he realizes the value of this offer.  There in our view will be more options for this All State kid and this season we excpect him to be the go to guy for Lake Oswego.

"Me and the Air Force Coach have been talking for a while now. He came out to visit me a couple weeks ago. He told me to give him a call on Wednesday night and he told me that he would like to offer me a full ride scholarship to play football for them," said the powerhouse LO star.  "I was very excited and shocked at the same time. I wasn't expecting it at all.  It feels really good to get that first offer. A weight has been lifted off my shoulders. But that doesn't mean I'm gonna stop working hard.  I got to keep on grinding.  I just am extremely blessed to be offered by such a great school. And I couldn't thank the people enough who have supported and helped me get where I am today."

Nick trains with our firend and SAQ and Strength Guru Mark McLaughlin of PTC and has core strength and explosiveness that is just off the chart.  That comes out all over the field where Nick is making plays.  The kid is a terror in the running lanes, scares the heck out of any receiver or tight end trying to do their job, and can block and flat out run people over on offense.

Who else is he hearing from?

"Some other schools that are recruiting me are some Big Sky schools like Portland State,  Montana, Northern Colorado, also Harvard, Washington State, and Boise State."

This season will be his year to shine even more then he has and no doubt there is a host of D-1 and D-1 AA schools getting closer to offering him.  For now the Air Force offer is something Nick can celebrate and think about as the NW heads into a long Memorial Day weekend.
