The NFL Draft is over and most of the Free Agency is done now too! It took 3 or 4 hours but we have a list of the best players from the Pacific NW who are moving on to the NFL. We may not have landed them all below but we did work with 100% of these athletes as young men during their recruiting process. This was a really amazing class for sure! Have a look at the list so far and follow the notes at the bottom to make a suggestion of someone to add.
Budda Baker - Bellevue HS - Round 2 - 36th Overall Pick
Arizona Cardinals - Safety
The hottest kid in the NW for many years Budda was the man everyone wanted. We were there in the Tacoma Dome when he was just a Sophomore and he broke off a spectacular TD that people talk about to this day. His 4.3 speed and power is undeniable! Way to Go BUDDA!
Budda and his Mother and extended family have been great supporters of NWPR and we celebrate this huge day with them!
Cooper Kupp - AC Davis HS - WA - Round 3 Pick 69- WR - LA Rams
Cooper Kupp may be the best Wide Receiver to have ever come out of the Pacific NW. If someone is better we want to know who. We helped Cooper all the way back in his Senior year prior to Eastern Washington getting him to commit. I specifically remember speaking to OSU about him and they just were not sold. They were a couple of years later when Kupp lit them up for almost 200 yards. This is a big time get for the Rams! We are close to the Kupp family and have so enjoyed knowing them all!Congrats COOOOPPPP!!!
Samson Ebukam - David Douglas High School - Portland, Oregon -
Pick #125 - Los Angeles Rams- Defensive End -
Samson was so under the Radar and NWPR covered him many times in his Senior campaign after we watched him dominate in Summer Camps and in the Season. Once again Coach Baldwin from EWU was paying attention- our in state schools in Oregon were not. Ebukam is so fast and so vicious on field he is a terrific player. Like his teammate Kupp he always showed that chip on his shoulder and beat all comers. It is of note that Oregon and Oregon State did not have an NFL Draft pick anywhere near as High as Samson or Cooper.
Samson you already know how happy this makes us! Way to go. He is another in a great lineup of Pro Football players coming out of David Douglas who are making waves in the College and NFL ranks! Way to go to the Scotts!
Zach Banner - Lakes High School - Lakewood, WA - 6'8" 355 lbs - OT/G
Drafted #138 Overall - Indianapolis Colts
The pride of Lakes High and of Guam is in the League- he is living out his own story and his own legacy. Far beyond his size his lion-heart can not and will not be denied. One of the most beautiful souls we have ever had the chance to get to know Big Zach is simply the man. The Biggest player in Football at any level means a lot to his family and friends and now he has his shot. All he needs!
Our involvement with the Banners is beyond writing and analyzing. His mom and Dad and family are friends and we celebrate with them on this big day! Go Zach Go!
Taysom Hill - Highland High School - Idaho - QB - BYU
Signed as UDFA by the Green Bay Packers.
We had a chance to see this star QB in High School at the Idaho State Championships and boy was he impressive. Great to see him live out the promise of his HS Career and make it to the League!\
Kendrick Bourne - Milwaukie HS- Milwaukie, Oregon -
Signed to a 3 Year Deal by the 49er's - Wide Receiver
We remember when Head Coach Don Johnson called us excited to chat up his rising star player. Kendrick Bourne proved Coach Johnson right time and again! We covered Kendrick first and longer than anyone and again EWU was on point. Fair to say Coach Baldwin stalks NWPR! But in all seriousness, anyone who watched this kid knows he is going to be an impact player. One of the funniest and most positive young men we have ever been around - this guy is the real deal!
Kendrick we could not be happier for you pal!
Sefo Liufau - Bellarmine Prep HS - WA. - QB - Colorado
Signed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers - QB
Joe and Heather were very kind to have taken the time to speak with us about Sefo when he was first starting out. As a 9th grader he was already making waves and by the time his Junior season came it was apparent he was going to be special. We covered him like a blanket and Sefo was always great to speak to and meet with. At Colorado he broke 99 records leading the resurgence in Boulder. Despite injuries, he has battled back and the now healthy super-star may be just what the Doc ordered in Tampa Bay!
Congrats Sefo- You Did it kid!
Cam Keizur - West Linn HS - Offensive Linemen- Portland State University
UDFA - Atlanta Falcons
Cam Keizur was so far under the Radar in HS that most people could not even see a Blip! We did. Cam was a part of our postseason team that played in the Tanoa Bowl in Washington and his Father and Grandfather are great Coaches and friends. As of right now, Cam has inked a UDFA deal with the Falcons. He is way too strong for most and is deceptively good - like NFL Good! Way to go Pal!
Cody and Jacob Hollister were unstoppable in High School in Bend, Oregon. The boys went separate ways into college and found their way to the top of the heap. Now the duo will be back together because the New England Patriots are giving these dynamic brothers a package deal! Big time talent and we are so happy for the boys and their Mom Jennifer who we had many a recruiting discussion with as the dynamic duo worked to get offers in High School!
Well done Boys!
Jason Thompson - Kennedy Catholic - Washington - Safety - Utah
UDFA Deal- New England Patriots
Jason was an intense and fun guy to be around in High School. He was a hell of a QB and headed to Wyoming to chase that dream but left after a year- waited a year and then played for Utah where he found a Natural fit at Safety! He can make it in the League and we hope he does! Way to go Jason!
Devin Chappell - Oregon State University - Thurston HS- Oregon
UDFA Deal - KC Chiefs
Devin's talents in HS were obvious to his Coaches and to us. But he did not receive much love from big schools. He attended WOU (D2) which did not work out and then he moved up to OSU where he earned a full ride and now a shot at the NFL. Here is another young man we worked tirelessly for because we believed in him and again we are proven right! His Mom, Michelle, always listened and worked hard at the recruiting game and was wonderful to get to know! It's been great to see him rise. The kid played for Team Oregon in the Tanoa Bowl after his Senior year and showed all the big stars up. He was not a pretender folks- he is legit and could easily play in the NFL! Way to Go Dev!
Xavier Coleman - Jesuit HS- PSU Vikings - Athlete
UDFA Deal with the New York Jets
Xavier fits that same mold. Big time talent, overlooked, chip on the shoulder, and now he leaves the best recruits in his class in his dust as he moved on to the Jets! Here is a guy who LOVES to prove all the haters wrong. In coverage this he is one of the best defenders around. Great size and power and we wish the Coleman nothing but success! Way to Go X!
Ryan Lewis - Eastlake HS - Pitt.- Corner / Safety
UDFA Arizona Cardinals
Ryan Lewis is one of 3 boys that Will and Kimmberley Lewis have brought up at Eastlake HS. Will is a former NFL player and Pitt grad and Kimm has been huge in getting these boys to where the are. With his brothers Drew and Troy in college rising up Ryan has made his move and will get his shot for the Cards! The first time I watched him take reps I was a fan and covered him after a Summer Camp as "the next big thing" only to hear critics say "Who?". Well, Ryan here we are. Great job pal- We sure hope you make the final cut and thank you for all the friendship over the years! Go get em!
Andy Avgi - Woodburn HS (OR) - WOU Football - Tight End
UDFA Oakland Raiders
Andy Avgi was a freak athlete in HS and he continued that in College being maybe the best player on both the Football and Basketball team at Western Oregon U. His Pro Day was epic running a 4.7 40 at 6'5"- 263 lbs. All of his numbers were off the chain and he proved he belongs with the best in the game. We covered Andy first at the behest of his Coach and OSU came very close to offering him but just could not pull the trigger. They should have because this kid is that good!
Way to Go Andy - all of us at NWPR are pulling for you to make the squad!
Ok now we know there are more guys we missed - or did we? Head on over to The Players Lounge and let's talk it up in our forums. Add anyone we missed over there at the Forum!
