Oak Harbor Big Man Dayne Herron Ready For Break Through Events

A year ago a young man in Oak Harbor, Washington started making a name for himself. He has always been the big guy around the football field at every age level he has played at and like most big guys he has a smile for everyone and a pleasant and respectful personality.

But last season as a Junior things really began to click and Dayne Herron grew into an accomplished blocker in the Wildcats Wing-T System.

Now standing at 6'5" and 280 pounds Herron is a beast.  He is ready for his Senior year and is working hard in the weight room and in school.  Dayne is a 3 sport athlete and plays basketball and is throwing the shot in Track.

One of the biggest and most physical blockers in the region Dayne is also very mobile and can move.  Something he takes great pride in.

"My athleticism is probably my best trait.  I run a 4.9 40 and feel like I move pretty well," said Dayne.  "It allows me to surprised some defensive guys as they do not expect me to be able to move like I do."

Dayne said he just finished the second year as an offensive linemen and that he is really getting the hang of it.  Something he knows he is going to get better at too.

"Really I have learned a lot about the Offensive line and I feel my ceiling is really high there as I am only going to get better and better.  Making a great block is awesome and just to give my team mates a chance to succeed is exciting for me."

The big Junior comes from a big family.  And we learned some interesting facts about that which he said we could share with our readers.

He has 7 siblings and when he was a baby his biological parents asked his Aunt and Uncle if they would consider raising him.  They had tried having children without success.  So they became his parents and when he was 5 or 6 years old they let him know the truth.  Dayne says he took it all in stride and considers his biological parents his Aunt and Uncle now.

The family is Huge with deep roots into Texas; San Antonio mostly.

"It has all worked out great and I could not be happier.  My Grand Parents had 15 kids so the family is really big.  It's a lot of fun."

At school he strives to be a good leader and was nominated for Link Crew which will give him a mentorship role with younger incoming students next year as they adjust to High School.  He is excited for his Senior year and feels the team will be good and have a chance to build on what they started last season where they made the playoffs.

What does he hope for after college?

"I want to be a teacher.  Maybe a Math Teacher.  I like Math.  That will also give me a chance to Coach Football.  That is a goal I have," he said admitting that playing at Oak Harbor would be a very cool thing indeed.

The kid is a talented young man and given a chance is going to put that big frame to work for some lucky college.  He and his parents are mapping out the Summer and he hopes to make the NW ELITE FOOTBALL CAMP on June 8th and the Nike Football Training Camp June 10th before heading off to some college camps.

We will keep you informed on Dayne Herron as he makes progress this next couple of months and of course wish him the very best of luck.
