It was a tale of two halves tonight as the Oregon City Pioneers narrowly defeated the Lake Oswego Lakers 21-17 to win the 3 Rivers League outright.  Leading 14-0 at halftime it looked like the Lakers were going to defend their tough home turf tonight. But the Pioneers were not going down quite so easily and this one went down to the wire.

Oregon City Football defeated Lake Oswego to win the League for 2013.

Oregon City Football defeated Lake Oswego to win the League for 2013.

Two second half touchdowns by rising star Sophomore Conner Mitchell brought the Pioneers back to a 14-14 tie late in the 3rd quarter.  The Lakers answered with some nice offense of their own but came away with only a 3 point field goal.

The game was 17-14 with 2 minutes left. Kicking off the Lakers kicked away from Mitchell as the speedster has made teams pay time and again this year .  The problem with that was that Trevon Bradford, another super Sophomore, was waiting for it and took it to the house on a classic kick return run for 6.  Pioneers went back up 21-17.

The Lakers made one last drive and had time but Bradford had one more big play in his bag of tricks and took the ball out of mid-air and picked off the pass and stole the Lakers chances of winning this one. More analysis on this one tomorrow but the 21-17 win was a Classic and Oregon City take their first Three Rivers League Crown in 3 seasons.
