Oregon State Beavers Offer Tobe Okafor

Oregon State Beavers Offer Tobe Okafor

Central Catholic is a program that has risen every year to a new level since Head Coach Steve Pyne arrived.   The past few seasons have seen a stream of All Americans and back to back Oregon State Championships in 2013 an 2014.  The linemen these past 3 years have been nothing short of spectacular emulating a collegiate line but after the bulk of them moved on this year it seemed the cupboards were going to be bare.

Tobe Okafor

Powerhouse athlete Tobe Okafor of Central Catholic has landed a Pac 12 offer from Oregon State!

No way.  Leading this years Rams upfront is 6’4″- 270 lb Tobe Okafor; a 2016 prospect.  As we interviewed him last season at the State Championship his fellow linemen video bombed and chanted “the future”.  They were right and his ascent today from a top rated linemen to a Pac 12 recruit prove that.

Oregon State checked in on Okafor this week and after a brief visit at Central Catholic they decided rather suddenly that they could not wait so they offered him.  We believe they are smart, in fact very smart.  Tobe has long arms and great aggression on the field while he also shows great composure and control.  Like most CC linemen his technique reflects careful coaching and precision.

He is now a Pac 12 recruit and is garnering other collegiate interest including Colorado. Tobe caught up to NWPR tonight by phone.

NWPR:  Tobe tell us about the OSU offer.  How did that develop and happen for you?

Okafor: Well coach Pyne told me that it would be beneficial to go out to their Junior day and long story short I wasn’t able to make it. So soon after a couple of coaches messaged me on Twitter wanting me to come out to their camp. Then just a couple of weeks ago Coach Woods shows up at Central. We met and I guess he liked what he saw because about a week later we talked on the phone and he offered me.

NWPR:  How about Coach Andersen (Gary)?  Have you spoken with him?

Okafor:  My family and I actually had the chance to speak with coach Andersen last night. The phone call went great, he informed me about their program and what they are trying to accomplish. He’s a great coach, and really just stressed the fact that it’s about me as a person and not only a football player. And that he wants to develop his players as young men and help us have a bright future football will handle itself!

NWPR:  This is big Tobe-  You are a PAC 12 linemen now.  That’s big!

Okafor:  Yes it’s huge, I’m very excited.

NWPR:  Does this change your schedule or Summer plans?

Okafor:  No, pretty much the same schedule. I’m still going to attend some camps. But even before the offer I wasn’t planning on visiting a lot of places.

NWPR:  Tobe let’s wrap it up by asking about what other schools are looking at you right now?

Okafor:  Well about 4 Ivy League schools just waiting on my test scores.  BYU, San Diego State, Colorado, and just a lot of general interest from colleges and a ton of coaches stopping by Central as well.

NWPR: Great stuff!  Big congrats to you and your family!

Okafor:  Thanks very much Dirk!
