As the regular season comes to an end it is time to look at the elite Football players in the Class of 2016 for the State of Oregon and review who is committed and who is still open. This is where things get interesting because we have seen very few offers during the 2015 season and we know they are about to drop. Also athletes sometimes open up their choices and we even see a “flip” now and then. Signing Day or National Letter of Intent Day is just a little over 3 months away so a lot can happen. Here are some thoughts on where we are at and where things could end up for the Class of 2016.
LaMar Winston Junior – Central Catholic- 2016 Linebacker – Committed to Oregon
There is not a lot I can say about this young man but Class Act! He is not only a big time D-1 Player but a terrific student and a guy who have the respect of all around him. The way he carries himself on and off the field is at the top level we have seen and this is a guy who will go on to the Ducks Locker room and be a leader for them. He should be an All American- a guy who played many positions and grew into that body and before he is done, God willing (can I say God or will I get fired?), he will be one of the best Oregon has ever had.
Cameron McCormick – Summit High School – Tight End Defensive End – Committed to Oregon
Cameron proves the point that an athletes Junior Year makes the recruiting process happen- at least a lot easier. With schools making early offers these days a great Junior year can prove out to be big time for a kid and Cameron did that back in 2014. His speed, length, ability to make plays and explode have the Ducks salivating. An injury sidelined Cameron for this season but that Duck scholarship is still good at last check and he has dreamed of being the guy for them so we see him in the Green and Yellow! Total player and student and like Winston and complete Class Act.
Sam Noyer – Beaverton High School – Quarterback – Committed to Colorado
Sam is a leader. At 6’4″- he is a QB with great vision and what people will see when they watch him is a guy with a big arm and the ability to break off nice runs and make things happen when the play breaks down. This is that player you want because he understands how to WIN! The Beavers are no heavy on talent and yet he has them ranked in the Top 10 – do not get me wrong there is talent there at Beaverton- but the depth is shallow compared to other Top Teams- This guy is a STUD! Colorado is very luck to have him.
Osa Odighizuwa – David Douglas – Defensive Line – Committed to UCLA
Osa is one of several boys and part of the amazing family story for the Odighizuwa’s. His brother Owa was an All American like Osa who will play in the Semper Fidelis All American Bowl. Owa is now an active NFL player for the Giants and a UCLA grad and Osa is on his way there too. This young man has the upside to be the best in this Class and one of the Best we have ever seen. A total talent and leader- this is a special person and athlete here.
Trevon Bradford – Oregon City – Athlete – Commited to Oregon State
If there is anyone that can change the outcome of a game more then Trevon Bradford I would have to see it. He is really that good. Oregon State landed his pledge and he looks to have all the markings of a collegiate star. A great young man to be around and a leader- his quickness gets our vote as a 5 Star asset!
Jacob Kizer – West Salem- TE-DE – Committed to UW
Hampered by injuries this season Kizer has proven he is one of the best in the game. His quite recruitment fits his no Hype style on and off the field and the Titan locked and loaded with the UW where he promises to go on and be an impact player. Pic courtesy of NEI.
Emony Robinson – Gresham High School – DB-ATH – Committed to Oregon State
An early offer led to an early commitment for Robinson who we know will go on to great things. It has been a tough season for the Gophers and Robinson has taken few headlines. Still he slots in very well for OSU – a place he can shine as a Safety in our view. Sharon Martin Pic.
John Bates – Tight End – Lebanon HS- Committed to Oregon State
Another guy like Kizer- less media hype but more action. A terrific athlete- Track star- and big fast body a lot like Cam McCormick. Bates is agile and mobile and could fill several roles at OSU! Mandi Funk Pic Via FaceBook.
Brady Breeze – Central Catholic – Safety – Committed to Oregon
If there is a “Johnny Football” of Oregon this is him. So fast and explosive on the field it is scary. Even more then that though is his total commitment to the game and the way he can influence the outcome. Receivers hear footsteps and QB’s worry about throwing his direction. Sometimes it is this guy that sees less action because of what he represents. Not to worry- the Ducks will know what to do with this true talent!
Justin Herbert – Sheldon High School – QB- Committed to Oregon
Justin is one of the premier examples we have ever seen as to why the saying “it’s never over until it is over” applies. He was injured last season after an amazing start- he could do anything anywhere on that field. No offers early as a result but he stayed with it- came out this year a earned ever yard and every down and has Sheldon at #1 in the OSAA polls. At 6’5″ he is like Noyer. People see a playmaker and wonder is he the future of the Ducks QB situation? Do not doubt it – he is that guy! A late Senior year Duck offer landed the Hometown Eugene, Oregon kid an offer and he committed – this is a big time talent folks!
GUYS WITH OFFERS YET TO COMMIT
Tobe Okafor – Central Catholic High School – Oline-Dline – a 3 Star Stud – Pac 12 Offers in Hand
Kaelin Himphill – Liberty High School – Linebacker – 7 Offers in Hand- Pac 12 next up?
Most versatile linebacker out there for an outside guy with speed and explosion. He seems like a great fit for the Ducks to me!
Jason Talley – Jesuit – RB/LB – Offer
He may rush for 2,500 yards and win a State Title with the Crusaders- he is that good. At the next level this guy is a BIG TIME TALENT! A Pac 12 guy all the way. How Oregon State has not offered him yet is beyond me- maybe they dont have that spot to fill. But he will be a force wherever he goes! Nice offer form EWU so not taking anything away form that!
Sam Maughan – Oregon City – WR – H-Back – Offers
Air Force and Wyoming have offered this pure talent. The best hands we have seen in a long time! Pac 12 guy? Yes.
Samori Toure – Westview- Wide Receiver – Offers
Samori is past 1000 yards receiving!!! The rangy speedster has Air Force and may be the sleeper pick of the year for any school!
Jordan Happle- Jesuit – DB/WR/ATH – Offer
If there is a better 2 way athlete in the NW I need to see him. Jordan has an EWU offer and I think he he bound for way more. An under the radar kid we know can play and win with the best of them!
Conner Crist- Tigard – O-Line / D-line – Offers
Crist remains a force to stop- no one has. No reps off all season- plays both ways. A total star at linemen and we think a Pac 12 Center- offers from Idaho, Yale, PSU. and Air Force.
Steffen Jacobsen – Wilson HS – Safety – Offers
The rangy hitter has Air Force, Navy, PSU and a handful of others. A cerebral kid that will be a contributor where ever he goes.
Kiahve Dennis-Lee – Oregon City – Athlete – Offers
This is a pure talent that can go all the way. We think he is still lesser known and has time to get his name and film out more but he has the talent to play at the highest levels. Air Force and Wyoming have offered!
Kayode Rufai – Lincoln High School – DE- Offers
Kayode is another guy without much love until this off season- he has 4 offers and can play at the Mountain West – another potential Pac 12 selection and under the radar still.
Makai Manuwai – South Medford – Linebacker/DT – Offers
Makai has offers and will move on to college. The heart of a great team of guys he is a leader wherever he ends up.
Taylor Jensen – Forest Grove QB – Offer
Princeton has offered this big body QB who can spread that ball around. Very talented and capable of more offers!
There are a lot more Oregon kids with offers- many great NAIA, D3 and D2 schools in the mix for sure!
