Yesterday we broke the story of Camas stud Drew Clarkson and his good fortune to have landed a beautiful offer from the Cal Bears. We ran the story Nationally as we normally due through our partners at Rivals and during that run we saw OSU (BeaverBlitz.com) and WSU (WAZZUWATCH.com) pick up the story as a part of our Team coverage. Oh my was someone watching.
A few hours after the story ran Coach Jon Eagle had his phone heating up with inquiries on this big offensive linemen. Clarkson hung up the phone at 7:30 PM tonight and called to let us know. In the hour or so that preceded his call to us he had two more offers. And they were both Pac 12 schools.
“I just hung up with OSU Offensive Line Coach Mike Cavanaugh. We had a great talk and he let me know that he and the Beavers want me to come play in Corvallis. Coach wanted to make sure I understood the program was on the rise. And he wanted me to know how much they want me to be a part of that,” said Clarkson. “And believe me I am thinking about it as I love Corvallis and the atmosphere and the Coaches there.”
Drew knows OSU well as the Papermakers go to Team Camp there in the Summer and he has many fond memories of the camp and the experiences. Clearly this is a kid who leans towards the feel of a town like Corvallis. A quieter kid off the field and just a great person by all accounts Clarkson was seemingly taken by this option.
Then we talked about the call he had right before that. It seems that WSU made a move as well and offered Drew a scholarship which was confirmed tonight.
“We had a nice talk. The WSU coach talked to me about football and the commitment and all that it takes to make it. It was a good talk and after we spoke a bit he offered me a scholarship to play for WSU. So I am just so happy to have 3 Pac 12 offers now,” said Drew.
His first offer was from Northern Colorado. And he won’t forget that saying he plans a tour of their campus and facility when he trips through the State looking at Colorado and Colorado State this Summer. Trip are planned to OSU for Camp and Cal for a visit and he says he is trying to get the rest of his schedule filled in.
UNLV and several other schools are in touch with Drew but the offers he admits are heating things up. Something he says he is ready to handle and with his Head Coach Jon Eagle by his side he will be in great shape all the way around.
“I will be looking at everyone that is interested in me. A verbal offer is great but that is what it is. So I need to make sure about any choice I make.”
What about the Dream school? Is there one? Yesterday morning playing in the Pac 12 was a distant dream. Now it is happening we had to ask if there had ever been one?
“If I think about it I guess I would say Stanford. Something about the school and academics as well as football has always attracted me,” he said but stating he loves these choices he has before him.
Wow. Things move fast don’t they? That is 3 Pac 12 offers in a little more then 24 hours for Drew Clarkson. And he could not be more deserving or happier.
