The cornerstone (or foundation stone) concept is derived from the first stone set in the construction of a masonry foundation, important since all other stones will be set in reference to this stone, thus determining the position of the entire structure. Today as the PSU Vikings and Head Coach Nigel Burton continue to lay the foundation for the future they may indeed have found their cornerstone courtesy of one very gifted local athlete.

For those on the Spring circuit his name as been called and spoken of many times. When speaking of premier QB’s in the Pacific Northwest for 2012 Paris Penn is at the top.

Speedy and accurate the dual-threat Penn has wowed coaches and contemporaries at the 7 On 7 events and the Nike NFTC Camps. And while he turned the eyes of several Pac 12 programs they apparently missed their chance to gain his services.

Just 10 days after being offered by Portland State Penn tonight finds himself a solid verbal commit to the school.

“It feels right.. it feels perfect… it feels great,” beamed Paris. “I have made my choice.”

And while some will say he should have waited and seen what bigger schools would offer he simple says he did not need to wait.

“PSU is the best school and choice for me at a place where I am wanted. Why would I want to go anywhere else?”

And he is right. The level the athlete projects to is irrelevant if it is not a natural fit.

His style of play is perfect for the Vikings Pistol offense and with three Senior QB’s and a couple of youngsters in the pipeline he may get to the park blocks at just the right time. And he may be one of many local kids that will come and help rebuild the PSU program.

Jeld-Wen Stadium is not only the nicest facility in the Big Sky now but it is one of the nicest on the West Coast. That added to Burton and his staff bringing some new fire to the program has people pretty fired up.
