Isaiah Sanders And Mason Schutt Power Prosser- Mustangs Move On After Big Road Win

On a cold Saturday afternoon At McKenzie stadium in Vancouver, the Prosser Mustangs defeated the Mark Morris Monarchs 41-22. The big victory advanced the mighty Mustangs to their third straight 2A semi-final appearance and 7th in the last 9 years! That folks is doing some serious work on the gridiron.

Prosser High School’s Isaiah Sanders has been a big part of the Mustangs success!

The Stangs are paced by their lightning bolt junior running back/outside linebacker Isaiah Sanders. Isaiah burst on to the scene last fall, popping some long runs as a backup running back and starting most of the season as a bone crushing outside linebacker/defensive end.

Sanders started this season out rolling up 4 straight 100 yard games on the ground, gouging defenses with his rare combination of power and speed. The 6’2″ 190 pounder blistered 3A Kamiakin for 103 yards and a touchdown in the season opener. In a crucial week 3 win over Othello, Sanders dashed and darted his way for 105 yards and 2 scores in a 27-16 win over the Huskies. A knee bruise in week 4 against Toppenish cost Sanders two plus ball games.

The junior rocket came back with a vengeance however ripping off 113 total yards and a touchdown against West Valley.  In the big playoff game this past weekend Sanders touched the ball 13 times.   Saturdays win over Mark Morris showed his skills where he totaled  75 yards rushing and receiving.

Also an excellent receiver out of the backfield, Sanders has caught 31 balls for 290 yards on the campaign.  The young speed demon has rumbled for 711 yards on 116 carries and 6 touchdowns on the ground. The mustang missile was a 2nd team all-league running back this year.  At outside backer Isaiah has been a key cog for the Mustang defense as well.

Sanders is a three sport juggernaut for the Big Red, he will be a key contributor from his forward slot for the Stangs roundball squad this winter. The Mustang missile is already a two year letterman in track and field. A standout pole vaulter, he also runs the 100 and 200 meters and does the 4×400 meter relay. Needless to say gang this kid’s going to be a special one for sure.
The young Mustangs (9-3) take on undefeated and #1 ranked Tumwater (12-0) at 3 pm on Saturday afternoon in Pasco’s Edgar Brown stadium. It is a re-match of last years state semi-final tussle won by Tumwater 35-21. The Mustangs have caught fire at the right time, but will face a stiff challenge from the Thunderbirds….it should be a gem dandy!
Prosser is also home to Senior QB Mason Schutt.  We have been underwater with a lot to cover as you can imagine but this amazing kid deserves some mention here in the article about Prosser football.  Mason was behind standout QB Ryan Fassler these past 2 seasons.  Fassler is at EWU as a QB of the future.  Mason has picked up the team and led this year.

Mason Schutt is #4 on the yardage list for QB's so far this season and he is not done yet!

In week one of the playoffs Mason threw for 260 yards and 3 TD’s and had another TD on the ground against a tough Sedro-Wooley Team.  He has had a lot of big performances like that. He has had 4 games I know of over 300 yards and has had as many as 6 TD’s in one game.
The kid is 6’5″ and 211 pounds.  He has the skill set to be a great collegiate QB and his Football IQ is very high as well.  His season yardage totals have to be reaching near 3,000 yards and he had 36 TD’s passing at last check.
Great job to Prosser and all their Coaches and athletes.  A really great football town and wonderful team that showcases what WIAA Football is all about.
