A smart guy, my Dad, once told me when you know – you know.
He was right about that in many things in my life and it had helped for me to know that and to trust that. Life is so much like the game of football. We find that lessons in one apply to the other. For Reilly Hennessey of Camas High School he is following his heart and making a decision to play for the EWU Eagles next season. His pledge this week comes after he realized that he too knew what the best decision was.
We caught up to Reilly several times during the Spring and he has looked better and better each time we have seen him. Last night we did an interview to get to the heart of the matter of why he decided it was time to pull the trigger and commit. Here is our Interview:
NWPR: Reilly that seems like a great decision and a great program there at EWU- Your thoughts?RH: Yeah it was just right. I trust the coaches there so much and really just felt at home!
NWPR: OK we have to ask. What is the best thing, and we know there is a lot, about Eastern Washington?RH: Easily the family atmosphere and the transparency of the program. What you see is what you get, as cliche as it sounds lol!
NWPR: Would you say that the Eagles offense is perfect for your skill set?
RH: Oh without a doubt! It’s almost the same (as what we run). I will have some new terminology to learn mainly.
NWPR: Are you feeling more focused and relaxed now that the decision is made? Seems like a State Title run is very much in the cards and being able to give yourself 100% to that purpose sure seems like a great thing! Did that aspect play a role?
RH: That was one of the biggest reasons in making my decision so early. It felt right and (I thought) why not get that pressure out of the way and be able to focus oh my goal of a State Championship!
NWPR: You are bigger and more physical this season- you have filled out and are throwing an amazing football right now. Do you think this will propel you and help this season? Is it a difference you feel? We can see it- but how does it translate out their on the grid iron?
RH: I have put on 15 lbs since last season which I wanted to do to really just make me more durable. Whether that’s in the run game or just taking hits in the pocket it never hurts to be more protected. It has also helped my accuracy. With more strength and better mechanics I ball spins better and goes where I want it a lot faster and more precisely.
NWPR: That is for sure! Thanks Reilly for the time and you know we will all be cheering for you guys now and at EWU!
RH: Awesome! Thanks a lot for all the help through this process too Dirk. I really appreciate it!
NWPR: It’s been great- Anytime!
