A number of our best from the NW Class of 2016 have been landing some offers lately led by super-star recruits Joel Dublanko (LB) and Jacob Eason (QB). Not far behind them are a host of others on the verge of making a breakthrough. One of those guys is 6’2″- 220 lb Defensive End Ryan Bowman of Bellevue, Washington.
Ryan had 13.5 Sacks last season and thought nothing of it. He might pop 25 this year. His speed off the edge, his lateral and vertical ability, and his voracious appetite for consuming QB’s and RB’s has already made a name for itself.
“My motor, speed off the edge, and quickness are where I have stood out do far,” said Bowman by phone. “From an improvement standpoint I have getting faster and bigger. Last season I was right at 200 lbs. I am at 225 lbs now and with two years left I know that this is where I can really improve.”
His brother Shane went through a similar transformation during his time at Bellevue and ended his career still rising as a recruit. Shane is going to tear it up at the UW and knows his brother is special.
“He is going to be better then me; he is so special as a player,” said Shane humbly last season.
While we do not know about that as Shane was and is an absolute beast we will say that Ryan’s Hudl film is jaw dropping in its final form. Coaches watching this are going to be seeing the rise of a great one. With two seasons to go Ryan is going to be attracting major attention.
At the Rivals.com camp this season he stood up against the best upper classmen at O-line and won. His bench is at 320 lbs, his squat at 485 lbs, and his vertical is at a 36″ mark. Add to that a recent 4.6 40 yard dash and you have the proto-type Speed rush DE or OLB maybe. He is a special kid no matter how we look at it.
His recruiting is just heating up with UW, BYU, Oregon, Stanford, Colorado and some others making some initial inquiries.
Ryan will be at the NWEliteCamp June 6th if possible and will be tearing up the line battles which always highlight the camp. We look forward to that and 2 more seasons of watching him excel!
