Sean Byrne Tears It Up For West Linn in Two Sports

Sean Byrne (6-2 228 FB/LB Jr.) is a kid that you don’t want to meet coming across the middle. The Linebacker from West Linn is considered one of the hardest hitters in the state and projects at the Division 1 level much like his family before him. Byrne recently attended the Badger 7 on 7 event in Las Vegas where he teamed with high flyer Joel Skotte (6-3 225 RB/LB Jr.) of Mt. View and some other Oregon studs.

Skotte was just offered by 3 schools in a single day (Idaho, Washington St, Air Force). Byrne was also joined in Vegas by Nicholas Rothstein (5-11 202 ATH Jr.) of Jesuit, and Taylor Walcott (6-0 170 WR Jr.) of Marist. All four kids are ranked in the top 15 for the Class of 2012′. They finished 6th among 27 teams in attendance making Oregon proud.

Byrne is a product of his environment. He has been raised to play football at the highest level and only knows one speed. His father, John Byrne, was an Oregon Duck who had a successful career.

Both of his uncles were full ride athletes at Notre Dame and the Naval Academy. If that’s not impressive enough his grandfather was an All American Point guard at Iowa State.

Sean is still growing and gaining speed and size. He could easily grow a few more inches as most family members are in the 6-5, 6-6 inch range. His upside is off the charts as he clocked a 4.6 40 yard dash, that compliments his core lifts with his squat (500), Bench (315), and Clean (300).

The 2010 season saw Byrne garner 102 total tackles, 22 Tackles for loss, and an eye popping 12 sacks while only being completely healthy for 2 league games.

West Linn features a solid group of returning athletes as the Lions are never short on talent There line features potential All American Evan Voeller (6-5 290 OL So.) and Cam Keizer (6-4 330 OL Jr.) along with returning all league back Mason Finnerty (6-1 185 Jr. ATH).

A major play maker will be Ben Trussell (6-0 185 WR/DB Jr.) who was a first team all league kid on both sides of the ball. First team all league linebacker Elijah Eaton (5-11 180 LB Jr.) will also play a key role.

Byrne will be attending a variety of major camps this spring and summer. It will begin with the NIKE NFTC in Los Angeles and will continue at Stanford not long their after.

He will follow this up with the NIKE events in Eugene and Seattle. He has heard from a variety of Major D1 schools. Oregon, Oregon St, Boise St, and E.Washington have expressed the most interest. Washington, Wash St, Cal, Stanford, Michigan, Idaho, San Diego St, Portland st and a variety of Ivy league schools have all made contact.

Byrne is considered one of the state’s top players and it doesn’t end there. He is ranked the #1 defender in the state in Lacrosse and one of the top 10 on the west coast. He is being heavily recruited their as well.

When asked about his ability to hit Byrne says, “I learned from my dad at a very young age how to read lineman and anticipate, by the time high school arrived I was able to mature enough to make hitting a serious part of my game.”

Off the field Byrne is a nice, well spoken kid. On the field he makes life miserable for opponents. We look forward to seeing Byrne compete against some of top competition on the camp circuit as he looks to be one of the top linebackers in the Pacific Northwest.
