Crescent Valley Trio Ready To Showcase Talents

Crescent Valley Trio Ready To Showcase Talents

The 2012 Football Season is months away but in Corvallis the boys of Crescent Valley are well on their way to getting ready.  And for them this is a chance to get back on track after what should have been a terrific 2011 Campaign.  That was before the injury bug bit wiping out any chance the team had to go all the way.

Looking at Crescent Valley one can see great size and athleticism.  And their Coaching is top notch led by Head Coach Scott Sanders.  The former OSU Beaver is right at home leading the Raiders of Corvallis the past few years to become a football power to be reckoned with.

They went 3-1 last season in the first 4 games loosing only to Top Rated Corvallis by 2 points in a nail biter.

Injuries hurt the team badly from game two on with the loss of Bryon Bodon (OL/DL), Austin Powell(OL/DL), and Tanner Sanders (QB/LB) just to name a few.

The Raiders came back at the end of the season and lost their play-in game in Double OT to Ashland but showed signs of a team learning to live without their stars.  One of those things that has some of the top Juniors on the Squad chomping at the bit.

Here is a preview of Three of the top players in the State of Oregon who will all be on the field for Crescent Valley this season.

Tanner Fiez:  Class of 2013, 6'2", 215 Pounds. Linebacker:

This young man is a born linebacker.  Tanner is a great athlete but it is his mindset that sets him apart.  He is looking to hit at all times and has terrific fundamentals.  We think he is one of the Top Linebackers in the Pacific Northwest this year and that he can play with the best of them.  Tanner played the whole season and was a true leader on his team when they needed him and should be the glue that can pull this team together this season. With a little work on his Speed and Agility and another 10 pounds Tanner can be as big and gifted as any linebacker in the Pacific Northwest.  He should be on most collegiate boards for considerations.

  • First Team All League Linebacker:  2011
  • 68 Solo Tackles
  • 52 Assists
  • 120 Total Tackles
  • National Honor Society: 3.75 GPA.
  • 2 interceptions, 1 FR, 2 Pass Breakups
  • 1 TD on Defense
  • Played several spots on offense: FB, HB, TE

What Makes Him Tick?

"I was born to hit.  Nothing that I could do would make me happier.  It is what I am good at."

Strengths?

"Aggressiveness and Power"  He power cleans 265 and is a weight training guy.

Other stuff:

"I live with my family in Corvallis.  They are very supportive of me.  My mom is a Professor at Oregon State too.  I play hoops and am focused on school and being the best athlete I can be."

Film:

Bryon Bodon; Class of 2013; DE/DT or Guard; 6'5", 275 Pounds.  Here is a guy we loved last preseason as he is just such a brute.  There is a lot of things he can improve on in terms of his technique and finesse but this massive building block reminds us a lot of Alex Balducci who was the All American from Central Catholic last season.  He only has one speed and that is Over Drive.  He relies on raw aggression and power to defeat opposing linemen and is capable of tossing them about like rag dolls to get to the ball or shut down the offense.  Bryon can play either way on the field and we expect that he may attract interest as an athlete.  Like any HS player he is going to lean towards Defense but should not be overlooked as an emerging strong side Guard.

  • Missed most of his Junior Year with a shattered bone in his hand that threatened to have lasting effects.  Blood vessels ruptured and surgery was required.  He is close to 100% now.
  • In the two games he played in he was so dominate that many had him on a line to be at the top of the Junior Class.
  • Bryon is strength training now and is leg pressing 1405 pounds, benching 350 pounds, and squatting 550 pounds.  Those are insane numbers.
  • He is 20 pounds heavier then the picture above and still very mobile.
  • Bryon had a great showing at the NUC last year and faired well at the Nike Camps.
  • He has average but improving speed, good agility, and is off the charts when it comes to aggressiveness and ability to dominate opposing players.

What Makes him Tick?

"I do not feel I can be beaten on the field.  It is basically my attitude out there.  Once I am locked into that mind set the game gets easy for me.  When I come onto the field an enforcer mentality takes over and I play with the thought that no one is going to stop me."  That is what they call full on beast-mode.

Strengths?

"My aggressiveness, strength, and my ability to play sideline to sideline.  I will not take any plays off and will not stop.  Also I will give me team all I have at all times."

Other Stuff?

"I am going to the Team Camp at Michigan this Summer.  My other plans include some showcase events and I want to look hard at WSU and Colorado too who have been in touch with me.  OSU knows about me and of course it would be great to play for them.  Overall I am looking to get back on track and make a serious run for the title this season."

Film:  None Out Yet But work is progressing on a work out film and some highlights from last season.

Austin Powell;  Class of 2013; 6'4", 245 Pounds; DE/OG  Austin is a terrific athlete who is coming off a very successful wrestling season where he cut weight and was a State Title contender in the 220 pound category.  He received a shoulder injury in football and missed the last 3 games of the year.  The shoulder was hurt again in wrestling and he just had surgery to repair the labrum and some bone damage.  Austin is expected to make a 100% recovery and will be ready when the season comes.  His goal is to stay fit and when the shoulder is ready rehab it.  One of the top DE's in the Pacific NW Austin should make a full recovery by June or July and with his skill set of aggressiveness and ability to rush off the edge he is going to be dangerous.  Had a very good 2011 season.  Austin is one of the top rated athletes in the region by OregonPreps.com and Rivals.com.

  • MVP For D Linemen at camps and clinics last season

  • Had a good showing at Nike NFTC in 2011

  • Great speed rusher who has very nice pad level and really turns on the aggressiveness when he wants to.

  • A good offensive linemen who has good ability in pass protection and is a punishing run blocker too.

  • Overall Austin's leaner muscular frame allow him to move and do some things most high school kids can not.  One of the biggest defensive end prospects in the region.

  • Given his injury some things are out of his control but if he takes visits and makes good use of this time he should get back to full strength and have a chance to impress collegiate coaches enough to be recruited.

What makes him tick?

"I love to play aggressively.  When I am healthy I guess I just do not feel like people are going to stop me. That  and my desire to succeed is a strong asset for me too.  I do not feel anyone will out work me."  We concur and have seen that in Austin!

Strengths:

"My lateral movement, ability to get upfield, and my ability to rush the passer and set my edge on defense are my best strengths.   I feel I play with an attitude."  That is for sure!

Other stuff:

"I was hopeful to compete for the State Title for wrestling.  But football is where I need to shine the most.  We really started out so great last year and no one thought that we would do that much.  Now all we want to do is get the team back together and get going.  There is a lot of unfinished business and I am just so excited to get back and be with my guys."

Film:

These are three really superb athletes who should lead their team this year.  They are all excited to rally with their team and these guys who missed 2011 are hungry!  Very few High School teams will have three guys like this to build a program around.  The Crescent Valley Raiders have not only these three special kids but several others too.  None the least of which is Junior to be Tanner Sanders who is rated as one of the top talents on the West Coast for the Class of 2014.

OregonPreps.com will continue to monitor the progress of these 3 very special athletes as the off season progresses.
