Thomas Tyner and Bryson Sullivan Rejoin A Fired Up Warrior Squad

Maybe it was not the marquis match-up of the night last Friday but the Aloha and Sunset game had some great story lines. Among them were the continued rise of the Sunset Apollos and the more recent fall of the State Champs. But the Warriors are writing a new page.

In fact this game was loaded with fire power and big plays and while most people are saying “boy this is sure a down year for the Metro league” we are focusing on what is to come next.

Sunset led by Dane PoormanCole AbdieReggie Coulter, Ian Banks-Clark, and Stepehn Hordes just to name a few are a potent attack oriented team.

The addition of Junior Bruce Jones Jr has been a huge one and he continues to rise at tailback and at db as we expected he would; a certain collegiate talent at this point.

Coming into the night it was the Warriors who had won just a handful of games and who had been beset by injuries to Thomas TynerSheldon PrinceRyan Russo, and Bryson Sullivan. The word they use is decimated.

But Tyner came back last week and so did Sullivan and in the game against Sunset they both got back to their old ways again looking to be at 90% or better.

Tyner was spectacular and we have never seen him run so hard. It was a grinding running style too. Power and explosion and on every run it required a host of tacklers to stop him. He was determined no doubt.

But Sullivan made as big a statement playing both ways. As a Tight end he makes commanding blocks and gives Tyner a defined edge to cut in or out off of. Bryson is a punishing blocker and he looked really good living up to his D-1 billing at 6’3″, 255 pounds.

One defense Sullivan gives the Warriors a big time speed rusher who will not and can not be blocked. That makes life tough for quarterbacks and Poorman had to hurry a lot and was sacked a couple times too for big losses.

#86 Bryson Sullivan is agile, mobile, and hostile and at 6’3″, and 255 pounds he creates a problem for anyone.

With Sullivan in the game the Warriors have a superb lead blocker that when coupled with FB Lenana Meekisho (61″, 230 pounds) coming off the edge give the Warriors a superior back with two very fine blockers.

Add to that the continued stellar play of Juniors AJ McCollum, Brayden Kearsley, and Michael Kluge and you have a potent almost back to speed bunch.

Next week they get back Sheldon Prince who is heralded as a D-1 Safety and big play WR and if they get a little healthier they can be like a dangerous dog who was hurt and now is back roaming the streets looking to take a bite out of someone.

So for those that want to say the Warriors are done we say watch what happens next.

We see both they and the Apollos joining a fast rising Southridge Squad and a “getting healthy too” Jesuit squad heading into the playoffs a hungry group. Don’t count any of them out yet.

This was a great game that Aloha simply refused to loose winning 24-13.

Here are some great highlights from the game with some big catches, runs, and hits too!
