Talk about it in Oregon High School Football
He is playing out of his mind with a chip on his shoulder and some of it is totally justified. FridayTrevor Westover put the Thurston Colts on his back and beat back the rising Aloha Warriors.
And it was not easy.
The amazing athlete from Thurston has put up some huge numbers this year. And it was only a few weeks ago he laid down 544 yards of total offense on South Salem. But we never dreamed he would repeat that effort.
Last Friday he did just that. He carried the ball 40 times for 392 yards on the ground and 7 TD’s against a tough Aloha Defense who just could not contain him. In fact he took the second kick off of the night and returned it 90 yards for the score and before the night was over he had crossed the 500 yard mark for the second time this year.
Westover is 6’0″ plus and a muscular 195 pounds and is quick. Very quick! There is a lot more to this guy then just mere size and speed though.
He can run opponents over, regularly hurdles people, and has an edge.
“I think I am trying to prove to people that I have a lot to offer,” said Trevor who is hearing from a lot of schools but still waiting for an opportunity and an offer.
He says he is focused right now on the season and the playoffs. That is all.
However the recruiting stuff seems to be eating at him and making him play harder and harder.
“I keep thinking that if I just keep producing and playing as hard as I can it will speak for itself,” he added. “But it is giving me an edge.”
That chip on the shoulder is something that is really under rated. Kids that have it often produce way beyond expectations and play aggressive football. Things that coaches love to see in a player.
The 392 yards rushing he put on the Warriors was his biggest ground performance this year and he says he is not done yet. He put 125 yards on #1 Sheldon and 145 yards on top rated South Medford. So the work is coming in against very good football teams.
As of tonight Westover has surpassed Jesuit’s AJ Glass and is the #1 Rusher in the 6A with 1,750 yards and 19 TD’s.
Not too shabby for a guy who many feel could be an even better Safety or Wide receiver.
He is averaging 7.7 yards per carry and has yet to have a recorded fumble according to records although he said tonight he thinks he has 1. Trevor also has 305 yards receiving with 1 TD, 405 yards on Kick Returns including three 90 plus yard burts to the house, and 158 yards returning punts with 3 TD’s.
This brings Trevor to just shy of 2,700 yards of total offense and 23 TD’s which is nothing short..
