A few weeks ago a blip hit our radar here at OregonPreps.com. The date was April 12th and it was emanating from the little town of Eagle Point, Oregon. It was coming from the Track meet at 203 N. Platt Street. What caught our attention was that the report was of a 15.10 110 M high hurdles and the guy who ran it was 6’4″ and 235 pounds. Folks that is out standing.
By the time we caught up to Junior Tyrone Holmes it was the following week. What we found was an amazing 3.8 GPA Student athlete who excels in track and field, basketball, and also on the football field.
He was born in the Southern Oregon Town between Grants Pass and Medford and it has been his home ever since where he lives with his family.
His 52 foot shot tells of a guy with great core strength and as we talked it became clear he was a special athlete and person.
After we watched his 2010 highlight film it was clear that Tyrone belongs on the football field in the collegiate ranks.
Tyrone is powerful and ferocious as a defensive end and he can dominate opposing linemen gobbling up running backs on his way to the QB.
He could easily play several positions on the grid iron ranging from H-Back to Tight End and Outside Backer to Defensive Tackle. But that strength and speed would sure look good as a hard charging D’end.
Thus far he has not been on the Camp and Combine circuit that runs mainly between Eugene and Seattle but he mentioned getting to some this Spring including the Oregon State Summer Camp.
At the time we spoke he was still an all but hidden small town kid.
Well small town talent used to stay hidden but not anymore. Word travels and others saw the blip we saw.
And tonight that Radar is going off again but this time it is quite a bit bigger event then a top rated 110 Meter Hurdle time.
“I was offered tonight a scholarship to play football for:
