Brett Smith was tearing it up a year ago at West Salem. Now he is a starter for Wyoming

He was the #1 QB in the Region last year by our count and Brett Smith did all he could to gain the attention of the big schools. They all loved him but no one pulled the trigger so off to Laramie he went to prove himself as a true freshmen. Brett earned the starting job and boy did he make a splash Saturday. Come see what this West Salem Titan did.

LARAMIE, Wyo. – Brett Smith’s first career victory was a big one, as the true freshman quarterback led the University of Wyoming football team on a game-winning touchdown drive with less than two minutes left to claim a dramatic 35-32 win over Weber State on Saturday night in War Memorial Stadium. More than 21,492 fans saw Smith connect with sophomore wide receiver Robert Herron in the back of the endzone with 22 seconds to go for the go-ahead score.

“I was very pleased with the play of Brett Smith, especially the way he executed in the final drive,” head coach Dave Christensen said. “There are plenty of plays that you would like to have back but we’ll go in the film room tomorrow and make some adjustments. When a quarterback goes in with two minutes to go, one timeout and trying to come from behind, it’s a defining moment. You have to define your career and what you’re going to do as a player and I think that Brett did that tonight in this situation.”

This is what we came to know about Brett Smith. He is a winner. He is fearless and smart. And regardless of the level he was going to he was always going to be “the guy”.

After watching the Huskies struggle yesterday we can not help but think that they would have been better off with a guy like Brett. As it is now he appears to be on his way to a terrific career at Wyoming.

Best of luck Brett and thanks for the effort you gave while you shined here on Friday Nights!
