Ask around about who the top QB’s in Oregon are this year and you will get a variety of answers. Outside heralded Wilsonville QB Connor Neville (WSU commit) there is not a really a whole lot of big names out there for the Class of 2017. Let’s leave 2X Gatorade Player of the Year and freak athlete Tim Tawa of West Linn out of this discussion- he is headed to Stanford for baseball after High School.
Summit’s John Bledsoe is committed to NAU and we still think has a lot of upside but after that there are a whole lot of kids struggling to rise up and gain the attention of a school or two. Oregon has had some deep QB classes and so far this 2017 group is not one of them as far as offers go.
DeQuahn Dennis-Lee at Oregon City is clearly gifted and can land offers we feel and there are others too. Terrell Mims at Hillsboro for one who we covered earlier this month.
Then there is Westview High School’s Senior to be Zac Schmerber. With a wide array of passes and some nifty footwork he helped his Cats have a really great 2015 season and a 2nd round playoff run. He is not big, terribly fast, or technically perfect. But what he does have is pocket presence and the ability to win. The Cats are going to have a few of the very best pure athletes in the State this season in Mason Elliott and Jason Rucker and it sounds like the team is coming together very nicely. So Schmerber may be the man in the right place at the right time this season.
Westview’s Zac Schmerber One To Watch
Scanning the horizon this Cat looks like one to watch who could jump up and gain some offers and interest this season. Have a look at his film which is really well put together!
Best Wishes to all these boys this season – it is a season where the guys like Schmerber and Dennis-Lee and Mims can really take the torch and run with it after the games get going.
