Why Not Lincoln Abes To Win It All?

Why Not Lincoln Abes To Win It All?

Bellevue. Skyline. Eastside Catholic. Camas. Bellarmine Prep. Etc.  Powerhouse- Big Time!   All capable of striking at a moments notice and winning it all.  The cycle repeats- not too often are we surprised at the outcome of a State Title run.  The Camas VS  Chiawana game a couple of years back was truly one of the great finals with some surprises for sure- heck they are all good.

Lincoln High School Abes Football

What I wonder however is “why not” the less fortunate schools?  Those places where the money has not flowed and the recruiters and media have not flocked.  Less fortunate- lower income areas where football finds it’s gritty roots and connects more then anywhere.  Those schools that we all would just say “Hell Yah I’m a Fan!” if they won even if we quietly had never paid much attention too them.  Those places where talent and history is so rich that you can see it drifting through the air on a misty Friday Night.

Places where winning it all a dream to be realized and fought for.  Schools like Lincoln High of Tacoma, Washington and Roosevelt of Portland, Oregon.

Both schools have been going through a renaissance the last few seasons.  That has happened because people cared.  Boosters rallied and came back to make a difference in the lives of these young people.  Teachers and administrators have battled to get funding and facilities upgrades and corporate sponsors have stepped up.  More importantly the talent at these schools is staying put and playing for the home team.  No recruiting scandals and all that.  How refreshing- how traditional-  Friday Night is alive and well.

-R Rejects Passivity

-A Accepts Responsibilty

-L Leads Courageously

From the Lincoln Abes Football Booster Page- relating to their Goals and Objectives-  Pretty Awesome.

This season we will be following Lincoln and Roosevelt.  You will see our coverage on both teams and schools like this all season.  We cover them all but this season we want to see what unfolds- especially at Lincoln where the talent is deep and first year Coach Masaki Matsumoto is installing his offense and philosophies.  This group of Seniors led by the #SevereSix as they are known could run the table.  More on them later.

Why not Lincoln?  They lost a close one to Eastside Catholic 28-21 late last season late in the playoffs- no one else came even close to beating them.  EC went on to win it all over Bellevue 35-13.

I like Lincoln- the boys I have met and the parents and boosters- the staff- all of them have been awesome!  Some of the most respectful and driven kids around.  Do they even know how good they are or can be?  I think so.

Can they win it all?  Yes I believe they can and maybe they will.

Maybe more of us media types need to say that because on paper these young men should strike fear into the hearts of all of their opponents.

I’ll make the drive up to Tacoma next week to support Roosevelt and Lincoln and I could not be happier to support quality programs like this.  They have our full support and attention.
