Wild News From NW Teams And Talent

Wild News From NW Teams And Talent

Wow!  Week 1 was pretty amazing at all levels and we had to reflect for a moment. Here are a few amazing results from our NW Prep Report Alumni competing at the next levels.

Eagles Fly Over WSU With NW Sleeper Recruits

First off.  Cooper Kupp and the EWU Eagles.  Let’s call this what it is.  Better Coaching and better talent at EWU allowed them to win this game.  That folks is a fact.  No one can or will stop Copper Kupp who went off for 206 yards and 3 TD’s on 12 catches.  This is just what he does.  Beat anyone and everyone and he is now a Top 5 Heisman candidate and all from a smaller school in Eastern Washington.  He is “the one that got away” of all time they say when asking why he is not in the PAC 12.  But Kupp is in the perfect place and making a huge case for why athletes should lean towards Big Sky schools.  The league gives them a chance to play early and often and has proven it can beat Pac 12 teams so NFL scouts love the talent coming from this level.  Kupp is the best WR in the Nation right now in our view.  Read more on that here.

Copper Kupp was part of a special group at AC Davis in Yakima !

Many others made a huge difference for the Eagles.  Gage Gubrud was a virtual unknown in Oregon his Senior year at McMinnville.  We covered him and his late rise and EWU was watching.  Coach Baldwin and the boys follow NWPR and we pride ourselves on finding these sort of guys.  Gubrud went for 474 yards and 5 TD’s and was stellar.  He could play on Sundays with a showing like this!

Gubrud and Kupp are just two NW locals using the Big Sky as the perfect landing spot for big time football!  Pretty cool guys!

WOU BEATS Sac State on the Road 38-30

Not as earth shattering perhaps but the Western Oregon Wolves headed to Sacramento to play Sacramento State and won 38-30!  This is a big time road win for Oregon’s only D2 over a California D1!  Again local talent did it up as Scappoose High School grad Paul Revis went for 175 all-purpose yards and 2 TD’s.

This was a big win for the Wolves!  Good job to the boys from Monmouth!  Read the entire story here-

EOU Defeats SOU (#2 in the Nation) in NAIA Opener

SOU is a National Champion and has been getting the better of the EOU program for the past few years.  But this wild game ended up in favor of the of Mountaineers 45-40 as the buzzer went off in one of the best wins for EOU in years over a quality opponent.  Read the entire story here!

CWU Football Throws a Scare Into PSU Viks

Last year at this time The Vikings were celebrating their win over WSU on their way to the best season the Viks have had in decades.  This year at Home the Vikings fond themselves trailing to 3rd year Head Coach Ian Shoemaker and the CWU Wildcats, a Division 2 team, at the end of 3 Quarters.   The Vikings went to the ground and behind their massive O-line they ground it out pushing ahead to Victory 43-26.  CWU had a great start to their season behind Lakewood, WA Sophomore Justin Lane (Lakewood HS – Arlington, WA) who went for 350 yards and 3 TD’s through the Air.

 NFL Notes for NWPR Alum

News just in.  Arch Bishop Murphy stud alumni Tani Tupou who we covered his entire High School career and became close with has been signed to a contract by the Seahawks!   Tupou was an undrafted free agent and did what every kid dreams of.  He played at and above his talent and size and the former UW linemen who did not even start much until his Senior season is now going to play in the city he grew up in as an NFL guy!  Go Tani!  Every player should take hope from this.

Here is a pic of myself and Tani at the NW Stars Camp this Summer where he had some to support some of his family and friends. Hats off to this kid!

Now a picture was just posted of 6’4″- 310 lb. All American Defensive Linemen Alex Balducci from Central Catholic that is just awesome.  The former Duck has signed his contract with San Francisco which is awesome!  But this picture has him snapping as a center.  If this is something he can do in the NFL it is just a further testament to all his talents!  Way to go Alex!

Skinny Goes Big Time In Georgia

The #1 Qb in the Nation last season was Jacob Eason of Lake Stevens HS (WA).  His rise and recruitment became almost crushing at times.  He landed at Georgia and after so much talk about what he would or would not do Eason helped lead the #18 Bull Dogs to a 33-24 win over #22 North Carolina.  Jacob had a good first outing going 12 -16 for 134 yards and 1 TD.  He is a true freshmen folks and this is a very solid start to his career!  Great job Jacob and here is to many more Georgia wins during your time there!
