If the Tigard Tigers are going to move on deep into the post season it will be behind the vaunted rushing attack of the 3-Headed Monster. That is what three very special Tigers have come to be known as. Benny Wick, Kaz Greene, and Zach Floyd are the trio of athletes who Coach Craig Ruecker unleashes on opposing teams every Friday Night. And the results thus far have been nothing short of spectacular.
The team stands at 4-1 and only missed being 5-0 by missing a short Field Goal for the win against Aloha.
Senior Running Back and DB Zach Floyd (5'10"-185 Pounds) is perhaps the most potent of the three and one could argue the best unrecruited 2 way athlete in the State. If he is not it is a close one.
He helped his Tigers win again last Friday rushing for 256 yards and 2 TD's and throwing for two more TD's in the Wildcat Package that Tigard implements at times. His interception and exceptional work on almost all oft he special teams show what a complete player he is. The sort of guy who can dominate the outcome of a game with the help of his most athletic Tigard squad.
Zach has terrific hands and quick feet and his dedication in the weight room have pushed his numbers up into the highest ranges. Probably his best skill is his ability to stay on his feet and make plays happen. This skill set is clearly projecting him to a high level potentially.
He ran a 4.7 laser 40, had a certified vertical leap of 35" and ran a blazing 4.09 shuttle at the SPARQ Combine where we covered him this Summer. Those skills are showing up on the field now more then ever. And that is a good thing for the Tigers.
He is hearing from colleges and trying to stay patient. Waiting for that first offer or an opportunity is tough but he is keeping it all in perspective.
"I know if I play hard good things will happen," said Zach. "I cant control anything but what I do on the field. Everything else is in Gods hands."
Well he is right. But his 726 yards and 9 rushing TD's and all these other things he is doing are going to help. He is like many of our skill kids from Oregon in that he has the whole package but the D-1 schools put so much credence on a fast 40 time over everything and while his 4.7 laser is great (4.45 stop watch equivalent) it is slower then most top backs coming in from places like California, Texas, and Florida.
So all he can do is keep working. And he has plenty of company with team mates Greene and Wick who are both right there with Floyd speed and size wise.
All three of them will find a place to play in college and we are full confident that they will excel.
"Right now Portland State and Utah are in contact with me a lot," said Floyd. "There are actually a lot of schools I have talked to staying in touch."
Zach Floyd and his two stud team mates join our Best of The Rest Watch List for 2012: The rising Seniors waiting on that first offer. And man these guys can play!
