Is Football Season Over for the NW Prep Boys?  Well we thought so.  But now we bring you word of a new Bowl Game that is coming to Portland this Saturday at 1 Pm at Lewis and Clark College.  The Academic All American Bowl featured a Team from Hawaii playing a Team from Oregon.

NWPR and Rivals.com hope to go over and get a look at the game, the organization, and the recruits.  This looks a lot like the Tanoa Bowl we covered last year with a little different twist.   We will cover the Tanoa Bowl again later this month.  This game has a little different twist.  The Hawaiians are sending a team to this one and there is a mandatory minimum Grade Point Average to get in to this Game.

We caught up to Organizer Charlene Ignacio and had here answer a few basic questions about the organization, who they are, and why they feel like a game like this is a good idea.

Here is our Q and A with Charlene:

Dirk  1.  Information about your Organization?

We are a private organization committed to help promote and improve student athletes in “Character, Academics & Athletics”.  We believe there is potential in every student athlete.  If a student wants to play at the next level we want to say to that athlete if you work hard in school, your home and community you can achieve anything if you set your mind to it.  And if the athlete is committed to these things we want to help prepare and promote them so that they can be put in the best situation to achieve their goals of gaining an education and playing at the collegiate level.

2:  Who is running the Organization? A little background on you guys.

I am the Executive Director of the AAAB/AAAP that oversees both the business side and management side of things.  We have Program Managers in each of the states we are trying to grow the program.  Program Managers help grow and promote the program by building relationships with the local high schools, coaches, student athletes and and their parents.  The first state we are in is Hawaii where we initially started.  We are also in Oregon and now in the works with Utah, Colorado and next year we are hoping to expand out to California.  At its inception the All American Academic Program (AAAP) was created to showcase the talents of our local Hawai’i athletes at a national level against other top student athletes from other states.  Through the forming of the AAAP we took a step back to look at the needs of our local communities and concluded that athletics should not to be the main focus on how we shape young men and women, but instead and more importantly through character and academics.  Through our three main founding principles; character, academics, and athletics, AAAP’s mission is to shape successful leaders, scholars, and professionals of tomorrow, today.

3:  What are you hoping for in this first year?

We hope the program will continue to grow as it has been greatly in Hawaii and Oregon.  We hope our new states that are in the works Utah and Colorado will follow the same.  We are hoping that coaches, student athletes and their parents can see AAAB/AAAP as a benefit, resource and a tool for their kids future.  We believe that every student athlete has a chance to play at the next level even if it’s not at a Division I school.

4:  Can we get the rosters?

Oregon roster is attached in this email.  We will send you the Hawaii asap.

5:  May I please have information of the Coaches?

AAAB Oregon Team is Head Coach Chris Budke and Coach Ron Chappel.

6:  Time / Date / Location??

1:00pm kickoff, Saturday December 15th, Lewis & Clark College- Griswold Stadium

So if you all want to see some more Football come out and see a great contingent of Oregon and Hawaii Kids show up and play in this first ever Bowl Game.  We will embed our Video player and try to get a feed for the game live right here at Northwest Prep Report so watch for that as well.

College Recruiters and Coaches will be in attendance as well from many of the smaller colleges in the Region.
Good luck tot he kids and the organization.  Here is to a safe Heads Up Football Game!
