The West Valley Rams out of Yakima are poised to make a big splash in the Columbia Basin Big Nine 3A hoop league this winter. How are they going to do that with the likes of Kamiakin and Kennewick to contend with?
It all starts and ends with 6’4″ junior jumping jack Austin Strock. The high flying Strock was a 2nd team all-league choice a season ago. Last season as a super sophomore he torched the nets for 14.0 points and 7 rebounds a ball game.
He played in the Media Classic featuring the top roundballers from the Yakima and Tri-Cities areas. So it sounds like he can jump pretty well you might ask?
This youngster can flat out jump out of the gym. He won the All-Area Jam slam dunk contest in Richland last March. The All-Area Jam features some of the top hoop stars in Eastern Washington.
Strock is off to a real nice start to this season, averaging 18.3 points and 8 glasses a game through the Rams first 4 games. His mad skills have the Rams sitting solid at 3-1 on the campaign.
West Valley has defeated Eisenhower, Selah and Cheney to go with a tough 3-point loss to Shadle Park.
Besides Mr. Strock, the Rams return 2 other big guns that started a season ago as sophomores. Guard-Forward Jalen Peake at 6’3″ hit for 9.3 points a season ago, and
is off to a hot start already this season.
Tyler Cluff is a 5’10” guard who averaged 7.8 points last year. Forward Jason Dresker a 6’5″ senior is another returning starter for
the Rams ball club.
WashingtonPreps.com will of course keep an eye on Strock who should be a hot collegiate prospect if he continues his rise and to fly as high as he has been.
